Default Scott Wheeler's Top 100 drafted NHL prospects

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/561...shared_article

3 Flames on the top 100 list.

Tier 2. #6 Zayne Parekh - 2nd RHD

Tier 4. #53 Matt Coronato - 11th RW

Tier 6. #96 Hunter Brzustewicz - 19th RHD

Honzek mentioned on Wheeler's final cuts. Just missing the list for forwards.

Only one player in Tier 1. Celebrini.

He considers Zary and Pelletier as graduated, so he won't rank them.

Kind of stings seeing plenty of players drafted after Honzek making the list but at the end of the day it's important to not get overly caught up in lists like this as they are pretty fluid over time as lots of these players won't pan out and some overlooked players may pop. That said nice to see Parekh at 6 as it feels like the Flames may have got a top 3 talent at 9.

Feels good to have a real top prospect again.
Haven't really had anyone in the system with that kind of potential since Chucky.
Now do it again in '25 and '26

I can't believe Parekh and Buium fell to where they did.
Where did Yakemchuck and Senneke land?

Gabe Perreault is the only guy that really hurts. That guy is likely to be a super star with the step he took last year... otherwise it feels too early to be too disappointed at this point.

He's got Tij Iginla at 23 and he arguably wasn't a bad pick going in front of Parekh and Buium.

He's the obvious one but Musty comes to mind as a guy that would have been a better pick.

I'm guessing with the Pospisil workout direction Honzek in better shape (maybe heavier) and with considerable more injury luck takes a step this year.

Could be delayed a year though if he turns pro (year of adjustment and a more noticeable jump in 25-26)

Musty certainly looks to be a better pick now, but Mckenzie's list had him at 25 and he would have been seen as a bigger reach than Arizona picking Daniil But at 12.

But I don't disagree... I wonder why Musty was ranked in the back half of the draft that year? 200 pound, 6'2 winger who put up 78 points in 53 and was one of the younger guys in that draft. Attitude? I can't remember a lot of discussion about him last year.

He was discussed and some here were pretty bullish on him.

Can’t argue too much with the Flames rankings

Honzek had such a terrible year that it’s a surprise he is even mentioned

Hopefully, he can turn it around quickly

It was interesting talking to the Flames head of NCAA scouting at the dev camp. I gave him a little grief (in jest) for drafting Perekh ahead of Buium. He said they had them ranked pretty much identically but went with Perekh because he was a right shot. He definitely didn't say it but I would have to believe that the Canadian vs American had to have come into play as well.
