Good deal.
I am sure the Kings would have liked more term. He'll be a 26 year old pending UFA as the deal comes to an end, at which point he could be in a position to really capitalize.
$2.9 million in cap left with Spence, Kaliyev, and Turcotte left to sign. Should be doable with Kaliyev heading out.

Incredible deal for Los Angeles. Those are the best years at a discount.

If he wants to re-sign another deal like this, great. If not, they trade him for an absolute haul at age 26.

Unpossible! Only Stoopid Treliving would ever make a mistake like that.

Rob Blake won’t even be the GM when it’s time to sign his next deal.
Surprised Blake is still the GM. The PLD trade tree should have been it for him.

An age 26-33 UFA deal has the potential to be a huge haul for him - a team could underwrite that to no wasted years at the end which really ups the potential AAV.

A whole lot of meh to me. They’re willing to sign PLD to 8 years for 8.5 but not Byfield? Very bizarre.

Tucrotte already signed the craziest team friendly deal so that is off the table.

Blake got out of the Dubois mess. Way better to lose Vilardi et al for nothing than have to pay Dubois on top of all that.
He's had a pretty good offseason in my opinion, especially with people around here claiming he should be fired.

Have you had a chance to see Rob Blake's work over the last year or so? He's right up there with the Wizard when it comes to incompetence.

I have it on the authority of numerous posters that there never has been, and never will be, an NHL GM as incompetent as Treliving.
Are you saying they might have been wrong?

Going to likely be great value for the duration of that deal followed by likely a doubling of his salary when it expires. Gives the kings plenty of cap space to sign Draisaitl/Mcdavid during this contract - and I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what they’re going to try to do. They’ll have Kopitar/Doughty either retiring or on sweetheart retirement contracts. Byfield at a major discount and try to get McDavid and/or Draisaitl to join them as well.

I think he said there is a GM who can compete with Treliving, not sure we have established there is a GM worse than Treliving.

Still better than a 8x9 which I think he'll be worth by year 2 of this contract.
When he makes 31.25 million in first 5 years he'd have to make approx 14 million a year in year 6,7,8 to get that 72 million. Think this is a good deal any way you slice it.
