That was a weird trade for Damiani. We lost Pettersen for basically nothing.

Qualifying the Russians just to hold their rights indefinitely, though I can see all but maybe Okhotiuk signing eventually.

True, but he was also worth basically nothing. We spent a 6th round pick on Pettersen, and he never became more than a 2nd liner in the AHL.

The Team Canada trial date will be set in mid-August and the KHL season starts the beginning of September.

Fwiw, his dad has cancer, and he will likely be back anyways to tend to family matters, in addition to his trial.
