So this is the one to discuss.
Flames pick and a day before the draft. What three players are you grinding on at the draft table if the draft goes as the previous 8 polls went?
For me it's three ...
Dickinson
Silayev
Helenius
The big three forwards are gone, but Helenius might be the best center in the draft.
Three of the impact defensemen are gone but two remain.
I'd pick Silayev.

Silayev at 9 would be a coup, sign me up.

Would be an interesting decision, but I think the Flames need to swing for the fences here. To me, that's Silayev.

I voted Silayev but I like all three of those guys.

If the draft goes exactly like this I’ll happily take Dickinson and call it a day. I want the more stable, highest floor out of most prospects guy, but I completely understand selecting Silayev… who may or may not boom offensively but will be a guaranteed defensive stalwart.

it's still Dickinson over Silayev for me, but I feel the Flames would pick Silayev.

I would pick Silayev in a heartbeat - that would be awesome.
But if they think Helenius is the best C in the draft, then I would be 100% on board with their choice (I assume that would be excluding Celebrini)
Silayev
Helenius
Dickinson

I am really confident the flames leave with a quality player this draft.

Helenius for me.
Silayev is intriguing but history has shown bigger dmen taking longer to get ready for the NHL, and usually not with the team that drafted them.
Dickinson is good, but I feel like getting a center with a high floor and a pretty solid ceiling is the way to go

I don't think the Flames need to hurry any player into the NHL just yet.
The next two seasons we will bottom out, and then the pressure will be on to draft a guy for right now.

Yes excluding Celebrini.
I've heard some yes/no responses as to center projections for both Iginla and Lindstrom.
I probably should have Catton ahead of Helenius though.

I think Silayev’s size is working against him in these polls. Like people can’t get past the association of really big with not great skater.

Agreed, but at times it has taken even longer than that. A player drafted around #9 is most likely unfinished and will take a few years to come up (or has a very high floor but no ceiling, which is something we should avoid)

I can't get past a 6'7", great skating dman, who appears unable to outperform junior aged players.

Since this is the Calgary pick I'll ...
1) leave it up longer
2) run it off for the two dmen if necessary

Even if the person is a head by a single vote let them win.

This is kind of a worst case scenario for players available for me.

Not me with Silayev falling, and Helenius as a player many think lists are sleeping on.
