Default NFL week 16...and pick 'em

Looks like I **** the bed again. I went for the big upset taking Houston with a confidence of 12. I thought they had a good shot to take out the Jaguars. Man I hate that team.

Interesting week.

Cincinatti blows one at home. Stunning to be honest. They lost any hope of being the #2 in the AFC because of it.

The Chiefs dominate the Chargers. I saw that one. They need Pittsburgh to lose to Detroit next week to get in. Not going to happen. It will be a very interesting offseason in Kansas City.

Denver absolutely pummels the Raiders. The game wasn't nearly as close as the 22-3 score. They lock up that all important #2 slot and would only play on the road if they were to meet Indinapolis in the AFC Championship. Huge for them. This is something they haven't done since they won the Super Bowls.

Speaking of Indy, they lose in Seattle. They sat some players and rested some who played for a bit. I think they might have lost anyway, but it doesn't matter. Will be interesting to see how flat they are in the first playoff game after playing 2 meaningless games late and with the off the field turmoil that exists right now.

So the AFC looks like this....

1. Indy-BYE
2. Denver-BYE
3. Cincinatti
4. New England
5. Jacksonville
6. Pittsburgh

If that's the way it plays out, there is no way in hell Jacksonville goes to Foxboro and wins. That Pittsburgh/Cinci game would be a great one.

So THat would send New England to Denver and Pittsburgh to Indy OR New England to Indy and Cincinatti to Denver.

The AFC playoffs are going to be great me thinks.

As for the pick em, won't it be fun trying to pick next week's games?

Yeah, a little too late for the Chiefs. Was it the game in Philly that they blew, the game against Dallas, or maybe not being able to beat a very bad Bills team that did them in, I don't know. They are an old team and they've accomplished nothing. I think coach Vermeil is finished after this year. At his age, and with how emotional he is, I think an NFL season really takes a toll on him. Hopefully he'll go back to broadcasting because I can't imagine there are too many people in the NFL who don't like the guy. Players like Trent Green, Willie Roaf, and Will Shields are all getting on in age. All can still play, but for how much longer? Do you go with the same group and try to find a receiver who can hold on to the ball, and hope that offence can stay healthy? Or do you accept that age is a problem, and re-tool the team with the hope of being better in a year or two. Larry Johnson looks like a guy you can build an offence around. Jarred Allen and Derrick Johnson are good bookends to start with on the defence. It certainly will be an interesting off season in K.C. Still Denver's going to be good as always next year, and San Diego will be back. Maybe it's not a bad idea to re-tool the team for the next couple of years with the hope of resurging as teams like Denver and San Diego come back down after their run.

I just tried to do my picks.....Yikes the mind games you can play with yourself. Will Seattle rest their starters, or is Green Bay just that bad. Will Cinci sit their guys, and Kansas City go balls out. Will Denver, New England, Chicago rest their guys?

I have Pittsburgh clobbering Detroit and everything else looks dicey....well maybe Washington over Philly, but that was it.

Wouldn't you know, first time all year I pick against the Broncos and they play probably their best defensive performance of the year. Glad I only put 1 on San Diego!

Pressure's on Pittsburgh now!

Well glad to see the Chiefs send Vermeil off with a nice win. The NFL will miss Vermeil, as he was a great classy guy. Too bad the Chiefs blew a couple chances earlier in the year that ultimately cost them a playoff birth. Sucks to go 10-6 and have to miss out on the playoffs again. But in the NFL you win your division, or you really leave it out to chance. Unless KC can ever figure out a way to be better than Denver they'll keep missing the playoffs.

AFC will go
Jacksonville @ New England
Pittsburgh @ Cinci
I like the Pats to beat up the Jags. Mad biased me says if you move Jax to the AFC West that they're a .500 team that doesn't make the playoffs. So given that the Pats kill them.

I also like Pittsburgh to go into Cinci and take out the Bengals. Bengals didn't play their hardest today, but I think the Steelers experience will be enough to get them past this game.

Are the Redskins really gonna get beat by a deflated and injured Eagles team, thereby leaving their fate in thehands of the Cowboys later tonight?

If this happens...man would i love to hear some sports talk radio out of the DC/Virginia area tomorrow.

Yikes.

Agree with you Sylvanfan.

I'm kind of glad KC didn't get in now. I think they would be a very dangerous team at this point. I guess you gotta go back to that meltdown against the Eagles as the game they had that cost them. Great finish for them and how can you not love Dick Vermiel? I wanted to give him a hug too!

Jacksonville gets killed in Foxboro. The Bengals are a fraud. Great offense and an average or below defense that was extremely opportunistic the first half of the season.

I'm really starting to like Denver's chances now. I think Indianapolis could lose their first game. It's damn tough to hit on all cylinders when you haven't played a meaningful game in a month.....and lost twice as well. Pittsburgh, if they get by Cinicnatti, could be the type of team that can take them down.

I like Denver's chances against anyone at home.

First time since 98 that the playoffs seem to have something in store for my team besides a good ass kicking!

Anyone else think that aside from Seattle, the playoff teams from the NFC would've been in tough if they were in the AFC?

OT:
Flutie converts a drop kick, first one in 64 years.
Never knew this rule exsisted in the NFL...but you can tell Doug played in the CFL and learned some of those trick scoring plays.

Now that it comes to mind, pretty sure Flutie got a single point in the CFL too at some point 10+ years ago....a 2nd and long where he punted it, with obviously no one back, and ball ending up rolling in the endzone for a single.

Maybe his last play in the NFL and/or pro football.

Yeah with Bell I get the Boston CBS feed, and they were asking Belichek about it after the game. I guess Chris Berman of all people mentioned it to him that Flutie made the play a couple times in Canada. So I guess he's been dicking around with it in practice for a couple weeks and Belichek decided to let him try it today.

Well by my count the final standings of our CPHL pickem pool is going to be.

1.)AaronSJ pretty good year at pickem. Although I belive Dis got him on a Culpepper trade in fantasy football IIRC?
2.)Dis had a very good final week to make up 42 points on Habby, who forgot to pick two games.
3.)Habernac, must be catching heat from his wife or something these days that he choked so bad in the final week.
4.)Troutman, rallied back from a brutal week one.
5.)Me, Well I might have finished 4th had I not got distracted the week I moved and forgot to make my picks. Still too many bad weeks, and not enough good ones.
6.)TimSJ well he made picks every week and his placed well because of it.
7.)Flickered Flame also missed a week or would have been higher.
Other than that I think most people missed multiple weeks.

Thanks again to Dis for setting it up and well....better luck next year.

Thanks! This was my first time doing pick em', and it was a lot of fun -- it came down to yesterday's games for Habby, Dis and I... so that made it quite exciting.

I certainly did get hosed in that Culpepper deal! I started him once, and that was the week he got hurt. Meanwhile Warrick Dunn consistently put up 100 yard games all season. If I had him for the final, I just might have won!

Meanwhile, was able to turn around a Culpepperesque start and squeak into the playoffs. Lost by only 2 points in the first round. I was proud of my season this year.

Nice run for you Aaron! 1st last year, 2nd this year and 1st as a Pick em rookie!

I think I was second last year as well if memory serves.

Your math was off Sylvanfan. Not to worry, everytime I tried to update the standings before yahoo did I was off too!

Habby took second over me by 1 point.

That's what I get for picking against the Broncos. Then again, he didn't even pick two of the games and still beat me. Probably on purpose. To torture me until September!
