I guess he's trending up. Not sure about 8 years though.

Thats a great $ value and length for him at his age. Tippet can dominate a game when he is on.

Wasn't it rumored that Calgary was in on Tippet when he was with Florida? Man that would've been nice.

Over the last season and a bit (123 games) he's averaged 30 goals and 52 points per 82 games.

So a $6.2M AAV is a little on the high side but the hope is likely he continues to improve.

6.2 aint bad with the cap going up. Good 2nd liner money right there. He’s done well in Philly.

It's a little risky, but these types of contracts are the ones that occasionally end up being the best contracts in the league.

Teams that invest long term in their younger players often get rewarded with efficient cap hits.

Risk is also lowered being he is under the age of 26 so his buyout if things go south is 1/3 instead of 1/2.

Never a fan of contracts that are 7+ years but if you do this is the best age. Smart move if you believe in him.

Hopefully the Flames can acquire a young player worthy of a similar extension in a couple years after moving their rentals this year.

We already have at least one trending that way.

Rather pay him 6.2 than a 30 year old pending UFA 8ish.

Sometimes. Guys were upset Mangiapane wasn't signed long term but maybe that wasn't such a bad move.

The fact that guys like this get 8 year contracts is why the NHL is so boring for player movement. If there was no limit on contracts would he be getting15 years? This is just getting stupid. I kind of hope a couple of these guys get injured in year two (No one specific) and cost owners big chunks of money.
