Examining the tiers of Calgary Flames team rivalries

In hockey, not all rivalries are created equally. There’s a bit more fan – and player – emotion when playing some teams than others. For the Calgary Flames, there are a few teams that get everybody a bit more riled up.
Here’s a quick snapshot of the tiers of Flames team rivalries.
Tier One: Lifelong hatred
Edmonton Oilers
Okay, duh. Regular season games between these two teams are often events, and for fans (and players), wins over each other just mean something more than just two standings points. These teams have met six times in the post-season, and each of their meetings have created some defining moments for these two franchises.

Would like to see a win here but not really expecting it.

Minnesota also seems like a team that could really use a player like Lindholm, hopefully he can impress tonight.

I just want to keep winning to be ahead and screw over the Oilers. Don’t care if they pick before us in a draft, they can’t develop for ****.

Go Flames

Wild have something to play hard for while the Flames are playing because they gotta lol. Chalk up another loss. Hopefully they lose in an entertaining way.

Go Flames
What would be even better. Finish ahead of them but end up picking higher anyway.

Hoping for a W against a team that remains as boring as ever. Tough, but boring.

Zary and Hubey score.

I'm hoping for an OT win for the Flames so that the Wild will pick up a point to keep them in the running to keep the Oilers close to but out of the playoffs.

Finishing ahead of Oilers, but the Oilers trading their pick to go all in, so not picking at all in the first round.

The battle of the lukewarm franchises.

Two of the most mushy middle teams in the NHL over the last 20 years.
