Default LeBrun/Dreger - Flames open for Business

From TSN

https://www.tsn.ca/video/~2807098

Highlights:

- Flames listening on Hanifin, Tanev, Zadorov, Lindholm.
- May extend beyond pending UFAs, as this roster overhaul could go deeper
- Dreger says Kadri wants to win in Calgary, but has no interest in a rebuild

Dreger mentioned Kadri as a player who wouldn’t want to be part of a rebuild.

I hope he realizes the Flames really have no choice in the matter.

They're not good enough to compete for playoffs if they wanted/tried to.

At least he's open about intentions from the outset.

If he can put up 60 points this year I'm not sure he'd be impossible to move.

Wonder if the isles would look at him. They look like they’re in need of some offensive help, wanted Kadri when he was a ufa.

Or the Avs, their window is open but they’ve struggled this year

Nothing earth shattering, some notes:

- Conroy chased down by other GMs after GM meetings
- Zadorov trade request just the tip of the iceberg, Lindholm, Hanifin, Tanev
- Flames ready for a 'roster reset', some players with term (Kadri specifically mentioned) not interested in a remaining with a rebuilding team
- Tor, Van and NJ primary destinations for all UFA defenseman, not just Zadorov

and some Patrick Kane stuff

All depends of if Edwards is willing to green light taking on "dead" money as part of this teardown. Kadri with retention has positive value.

Being open to taking on cap also opens you up to acquiring additional futures since most teams are in a crunch.

I wonder if that’s speculation on Dreger’s part or if he was fed the information from Kadri’s camp.

Exactly. Maybe the Flames will take the approach next year to showcase the best posssible Nazem in order to try and up his value? Make that be the carrot he chases. If you want to get traded then earn your money.

There is also the chance the Flames have no plans of a long term tank and build strategy. They are trending to get a high pick next year but could be aggressive with their rental assets to add more players to try and win right away?

The way he worded it seemed like a line that would come from the agent. “He wants to be in Calgary and wants to win in Calgary but won’t want to be part of a rebuild”.

Exciting! Build a young competitive team for when the new building opens! Hell they could be fun and exciting well before that too.

For me this is huge factor. The returns can be so much better if we retain salary and take bad contracts back.

I'd move someone to a team like Arizona that has lots of space first. Create some room and then make deals that maximize the other teams cap for huge returns. It would be nice to have additional picks in the next 2 or 3 years.

No way the Avs are taking him at 7m especially with the length of the deal. If the Flames were to retain a bunch (LOL) then I could see them being interested.

No retention on Kadri. That's 6 years of retention and double it if the other team does a buyout.

Kadri can stay or someone can trade for him straight up.
