I think it is possible that since Pospisil has landed a regular roster spot, the odd man out, Duehr, who is waived.

I think the line move that changed the season was putting Zary with Kadri. They had chemistry instantly, and adding Pospisil created what has been our best line ever since.

That allowed Huberdeau to slot onto Backlund's line. Two for two.

And now Sharagovich is starting to click with Lindholm. Boom! Three good lines.

And Dube looked good with Greer and Ruzicka on the 4th line tonight (which has been pretty good all year)

They are playing with speed, pace, and physicality. And their confidence is growing every game, which can be seen in how many more passes they are connecting on. I think some people might owe Huska an apology.

20 games into the season, the Flames and Oilers are tied in goals per game - who had that on their Bingo card?

It may be time to trade one of our ufa players. Need to keep Duehr in the lineup. He will bounce back.

The only UFA forward to trade is Lindholm. That would be the start of the tank

The only guy that Duehr can replace that make sense long term is Greer

But he needs to step up , he is a scrub , nobody is going to hand him a job for free.

Dube is an RFA however he’s younger than Duehr.

Greer is a UFA I think. But I really like him. Plus he’s the same age as Duehr anyway.

Duehr is an interesting case.

It's pretty clear whey he's lost his place in the lineup. His speed is gone. He doesn't handle the puck well.

He's really struggling with getting to his game. Confidence seems to be shot.

Yeah when you call up two guys (one specifically), and have them move into your top six instantly and stay there, the trickle down effect is undeniable.

So the flames did have some talent stashed in the AHL....cool. Turns out the best team, in the best developmental league in the world, had some pretty good players. Petterson and Wolf next please.

Duehr, and the players like him, are always likely to have one foot out the door and are tough to last long term in the league. With the lack of skill they really have to rely on maintaining top level energy and getting some puck luck, that has to be a hard way to play 80+ games a season, multiple seasons.

Seems like a good guy, and someone you would want around during a rebuild, but also not surprising that when a few young guys have stepped up that he lost his spot.

I almost wonder if it's the contract.

Last year he just motored and when he got the puck he had the skill to make plays.

He looked like a guy that could challenge for a third line spot not be this year's 12/13 man.

Interesting looking at the different probability levels for making the playoffs.

That 16-18 ranked team (league) wide is around 40%. Then a lot of teams in the 30s that are all within striking range. Calgary is at 34%.

Only teams really out of it are the Sharks, Jackets, Wild, Oilers and Blackhawks.

Based on these stats from Haynes it looks like every year at least 10% of the teams outside of the playoffs at Thanksgiving (US) make the playoffs.

I’m not an expert lip-reader but after that gorgeous saucer pass from #Flames teammate Connor Zary, I’m pretty sure Mikael Backlund just said “Wow” as he celebrated that goal.
The look and smile that Backlund had after that goal.
There really is something intrinsic about having youth and energy on a club.
Should almost be a mandate that 1-3 rookies need to be making the team every year.
If you can layer them in through the season then they can help and build on each other and the energy would continue throughout the games.

Jamie McLennan made a good point too about how the season starting a couple weeks later than normal kind of screw up the whole US Thanksgiving deadline.

Yes. And yet the fan outrage seems to have been misplaced, none the less.

It's not a good point, though.

Since 2015, by American Thanksgiving all teams had played between 17–22 games every season. The one exception was in 2021, when teams had played 15–20 games. This year NHL teams had all played between 16–21 games. It makes virtually no difference at all.
