NHL releases their own advanced stats subsite
Holy. This is gooooood.
Announcement:

The NHL launched the website NHL.com/EDGE on Monday as the next phase of the development of its Puck and Player Tracking technology, giving the public access to some of the same data available to teams and broadcasters.
The rabbit hole runs deep for skaters, goalies and teams, with new ways to look at things like skating speed, skating distance, shot speed, shot location and zone time.

Nice visual.
Flames:
Flames are slow at top speed, slow accelerating, yet skate great distances.
Flames top shot speed is slow, shooting % is brutal, all while offensive zone time and shots on goal are both strong. 96th percentile for long-range shots.
This tells the story of an unskilled, hard working team. That matches my eye test.

I want this technology in my beer league. Would love to see how low my skating distance is.

go check shot locations. Shows how little they make use of that possession.

It also doesn't help that the fastest (hardest?) single shot we've had this season is slower than 50% of the rest of the league.

The fastest any Flame has skated this season is 22.54 mph. It was Zadorov at 15:52 of the 3rd period vs CBJ... and it's slower than the league avg top speed and below the 50th percentile of the rest of the league.
So, our fastest moment by any player this year is still slower than half the league.

What? Not at all!
The Team skates a lot, because they always stay in position, which means they aren't scrambling. Ergo, no need for high top speed and speed burts! Same with shot speed. Flames pass the puck so well, and are so well positioned, they don't even need hard shots to score!
It's all true, I assure you.

That all matches the eye test PERFECTLY. I don't see any causes for concern. None at all. Nope.

Wow, NHL using an altered rose diagram. Who thought geology and sedimentology could make the mainstream.

It's nice that they have two prior years of data and pages for every player. Looking forward to seeing how/if they add more metrics and make it more useful.

Since the whole concept of Corsi was to be a proxy for possession, it will be interesting to see a comparison between Corsi numbers and actual possession stats and see if there's any actual correlation.
Also, it will be interesting to see if there's any actual connection between possession and team success since that was the whole idea behind Corsi.
Finally, we'll no longer need a proxy for possession now that we have actual possession stats, so it will be nice to see Corsi go the way of the dodo.

Quick critiques:
Seriously need to normalize for per60minutes, or per60minutes ES. Very silly to compare counting stats of teams who have played 6 games vs 4 games. It will improve over time, but c'mon.
Top shot speed is silly. Could be One defensemen who slaps the puck wide once.
Speed bursts seem silly too. Is a player rushing back on defense or going forward with the puck? That kinda really matters. The NFL tracks speed usually in context of ball carrier or WR running a route.
Shot location graph. A+
Zonetime. A+
Flames generating a lot of far point shots, and few crease shots.

It's not that. It looks like it's actually an average shot velocity measure for the team based on individual's top velocity. It's a misnomer.
