Flames Francis: All contract talks on hold for Flames

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...eatens-season/

Quote:
Don’t expect to see the Calgary Flames ink Noah Hanifin to that extension anytime soon.

Ditto for Elias Lindholm.

Sportsnet has learned all contract talks are now on hold for an organization that may be on the precipice of having to take a radical new approach.

Not a tear-it-down rebuild as most are clamouring for, but a significant re-tooling that would almost certainly involve trading the aforementioned Flames pillars.

Another indication this team has no plan and is flying by the seat of their pants. Sad to see. Had more hope for Conroy and would have hoped he learned from Treliving’s mistakes.

Really hope they don't try to force remaining competitive and make some stupid hockey trades.

I wouldn't oppose a Hanafin re-signing but the rest need to be traded so this is for the best.

good news. Let's hope they'll eventually pivot closer to teardown territory, but I prefer re-tooling to the status quo.

Treliving would have doubled down and re-signed everyone. I don't understand how this isn't a positive, under the circumstances.

I'd have to see the hockey trade idea first. But I do tend to agree with your view point. Although, as a fan, it's super exciting to hear rumors of hockey trades.

At this point you like to hear it, but the fact that a 5 game sample size can so dramatically change a team's approach or direction moving forward is scary.

If we rattle five wins off in a row - are talks all the sudden back on?

Noooooooooooooo! This sounds like the dying days of Sutters GM tenure when he turned the Flames into the Calgary Maple Rangers.

Jesus. These idiots never ever learn a gotdamn thing do they?

Also a signal to the league to keep some cap room at the playoffs. A wise decision.

Really? Seems like the opposite. Treliving would still be out there trying to sign the UFAs.

I don't understand. You want us to sign and/or keep all of the aforementioned pillars?

Nine games should not change the course of the team’s plan. That’s a problem. If it takes only nine games to make you change your mind in your strategic plan, then your plan was crap to begin with.

Now is the time to go into overdrive on the efforts to ensure a rebuild (or retool or whatever name they are calling it). Hopefully retool means young players under the age of 23 and ideally draft picks.

I don’t think it’s the record, I think it’s the way they’ve been playing since game 1. The mix is very clearly not working, they addressed the coaching side of it, now it’s pretty clear it’s a player/role issue.

I’m happy to see they can adapt to what they see in front of their eyes, rather than continuing to stuff a square peg in a round hole.
