Default What are potential lines and pairings you'd like to see?

As the Title says: What are potential lines and pairings you'd like to see?

I'll start:

Huberdeau-Lindholm-Coronato

I know it's likely to happen at some point, but I think our best offensive potential comes from these guy playing together and getting time to build chemistry and an identity. Coronato sure seems like he belongs in the NHL, but an 82 game season is quite a jump from what he's used to. He's a gamer though, he battles and wants the puck. I think putting him on the top line will get the best out of him, he wants to be an impact player and I think he'll be more hungry playing with our two most skilled forwards. I think he would also add a good dynamic to the Huberdeau/Lindholm combination. Those two need someone who can spice things up and open up some space. Coronato could be that guy!

Mangiapane-Backlund-Dube

Backlund put up 56 last year, he's our new captain let him run some offense as maybe a new second line! I know it's tough to split Backlund and Coleman, but we know what we have with those two and we can always switch back. I just feel like Backs deserves a chance to let loose a little and release some more of his offensive talent. Mangiapane and Dube can both produce nicely, Mangiapane-Kadri-Dube was a decent line last year at times but I've noticed that Kadri is a little bit of a puck hog. Add Backlund and I think Mangiapane and Dube will benefit from his play making abilities.

Ruzicka-Kadri-Coleman

I feel like Kadri could benefit from playing with a strong two way player like Coleman. Colemans 200 foot game could really open up space for Kadri to play his aggressive "drive the net" style of play. Rusicka is still a question mark in terms of what we have, skill is there but consistency is not, I think he could find a groove with Kadri!

Hunt (placeholder for Pelletier)-Sharangovich-Duehr

Ideally we get Pelletier back sooner than later, but Hunt could be serviceable in the interim. I think having a scoring threat fourth line is preferable to lumbering vet fourth lines we've seen in years past (All respect to Lucic). I've been impressed with Duehr for a while, seems to be a strong skater with good hands. I think both he and Sharangovich are hungry to prove themselves and figure out where they really fit in on this team. Add Pelletier to that line and you bring some youth and skill that could really make them a scoring threat.

Ruzkicka-Backlund-Coleman

As I said previously Ruzicka has the skills but lacks consistency. Place him on the wing with our two most consistent players, I think thats the best chance to build up his game and get some predictability in his compete level.

Mangiapane-Kadri-Dube

That line showed some good chemistry at times last year. Sutter certainly had them on a short leash offensively though trying to develop their two way game), let them loose and see what they can do offensively together!

D Pairings:

I should preface by saying that I believe they should bring up Solovyov. I think defensively he is better than Oesterle and Gilbert! He plays a solid defensive game and I thought he didn't look out of place at all in the preseason. He plays more of a stay at home defense style of game and he blocks shots like Tanev.

Solovyov-Weegar

Solovyovs defensive game compliments Weegars offensive upside nicely. Weegar needs space to play his game, I think the World Championship proved that! Once/if Hanifin leaves I think that could be our top pairing.

Hanifin/Kylington-Anderson

I'm no longer overly optimistic that Kylington will make his way back to being a regular NHLer. That said I hope he does get back, if he does I'd really like to see him paired with Anderson. Kylington showed that he can play at a high level and be an effective top 4 player.

Zadorov-Tanev

I feel like Zadorov has some rough edges and would do well playing with and learning more form Tanev.

Zadorov-Anderson

If Kylington doesn't come back

Huberdeau-Kadri-Lindholm

These three have chemistry on the PP, and it's a better use of Kadri than 3C duty.

Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman

This line is basically our rock

Pellettier-Zary-Coronato

A kid line that can be collectively sheltered and given a chance to prove itself

Sharangovich-Ruzicka-Dube

A relatively young line full of guys who all feel they should be higher up the lineup. A good balance of most aspects.

Weegar - Andersson
Kylington - Tanev
Hanifin - Zadorov

I'd like to see Coronato really take it off by playing as the "rookie player" that always tends to mesh well with Backlund and other veteran winger. Whether it's been Frolik, Mangiapane, and now Coleman, the Backlund and veteran winger combo tends to be a good recipe for a rookie to flank Backlund on the other wing. In this case, Coronato would be ideal on the right side and Coleman moving over to the left.

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Dube - Kadri - Sharangovich (2A)
Coleman - Backlund - Coronato (2B)

With Ruzicka filling in whoever is not playing well in the top 9.

As for pairings I would really like Andersson and Weegar to be paired up, but I doubt that happens with Hanifin still on the team (plays well with Andersson) or Tanev not exactly playing his best hockey as of late.

I know he's not the 1C. But as much as I want Huberdeau-Lindholm to work, it might make sense to put Backlund between Huberdeau and Coronato.

In the interest of mixing things up and/or stacking the lines:

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Kadri
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coronato
Ruzicka - Dube - Coleman
Sharangovich - Zary - Duehr
Greer

or

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Coronato
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Dube - Kadri - Duehr
Ruzicka - Zary - Sharangovich
Greer

I am not sure about the lines as I am not sure who to play with Kadri any longer - it feels like Sharangovich should be on that line since he has a tendency to play defence, but that was a relatively short experiment.

I would like to see one of Lindholm or Coronato play their off-side on the PP. It seems Lindholm's shot isn't really being utilized, so either switch him with Huberdeau, or switch him with Kadri.

I would really like to see Huberdeau-Lindholm-Coronato for a few games at least. Huberdeau thrives with wingers who skate well, have a quick release and play a north-south game. Of all the wingers on the team, I think Coronato and Sherangovich fit that description the most.

I understand the desire to put Coronato with Backlund and Coleman so he can learn a solid defensive game. However, I would rather put Coronato in a position to maximize his offensive potential rather than try to turn him into the perfect player defensively. Let him be a goal-scoring forward… that’s what he was drafted to be. Also, Coleman especially can be a physically demanding player to play with because he sets up for a grinding, cycling game in the offensive zone. It’s to a lesser extent similar to why it’s hard for a young player with skill to excel with Trevor Lewis. He’s a hard worker and a good fourth line player but Lewis would dump the puck in on a 2-on-1.

I think putting Coronato with Kadri has been a poor spot for him. For one thing… Kadri can be a bit of a puck hog sometimes which is not helpful for Coronato. Also, I’ve seen at least two instances where Coronato was in the right spot defensively in his own zone but Kadri was not and it lead directly to a goal against.

I think they should shift Lindholm to 3C and give him the easier matchups.

Huberdeau - Backlund - Coronato
Ruzicka - Kadri - Sharangovich
Coleman - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Greer - Dube - Greer

You can deploy Lindholm or Kadri has 2 or 3. Backlund can keep taking the tough matchups and so can Lindholm since he is good at faceoffs.

Try to shelter Kadri as much as possible.
