Great deal IMO
I think he took a discount as he's getting at least $8.5M on the open market

Good contract for both Toews and the Avs. This also underscores how good the Weegar contract is

Noah Hanifin now far and away the best D to be a UFA in the Summer?
He and Montour definitely at the top of the list.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Noah end up getting $7.5-$8M on an 8 year term given his age.

Interesting that two recent high profile players in the same age range (Toews/Scheifele) are only getting 7 year deals. Wonder if this factors into the Lindholm negotiations.

Whoever signs that will regret it. Not worth near that. I’m hoping the Flames trade him, I wouldn’t give him anything over $6 million per.

I am sure it factors into the negotiations. Whether it makes a difference to Lindholm is anyone’s guess.

The emergence of Solovyov and Poirier make me less apprehensive of seeing Hanafin move on. Not the same players, I know, but two possible NHL-ready defensemen that can fill that gap.

Should set a very firm bar on Hanifin. He's nowhere near the dman that Toews is.

Personally, at this point I think I’d rather the Flame extend Tanev 2 years, and Zadorov long term. Trade Hanifin and like you said, start using some of the young guys. Hanifin is just so Vanilla, plus he isn’t exactly a high IQ defender. Tanev is a rock and Zadorov gives us an element that is needed.

Maybe not, but Hanifin has name recognition/pedigree as a former top 5 pick (even if it was 8 years ago) that will factor in favorably for him.
I would bet that he ends up very close to this deal.

Short term, I agree.
In the long haul, Morin is the guy who makes Hanifin expendable - that kid is gonna be a star.

Will be 30 turning 31 during the first year of the deal. Looks like a solid one for the first half or so of the contract but tough to see it being a steal in those last 3-4 years.

Looks like a steal to me. I was hoping Colorado might decide to move away from Toews if he wanted $9-10M, but that's not the case.

The Avs will have a stacked blueline for years, I'm jealous.

Of course there is always a risk he drops off but this is the type of player you make that bet on.
Especially when $7.25M is already so far below his market value which should have easily been $9M+. He's a top 25 d-man in the NHL quite easily.

Watching the game yday, I yelled at the tv towards Hanafin many times. Some of his clears are so bleh. Also, him dumping into the corner while on the PP makes me cry. I would love if we could get something for Hanafin.

I think Weegar is a better comparison for Toews than Hanifin is. I know Toews does a lot more offensively, but I would think Weegar would pout up similar numbers in that role, on that team.
