Posted this in the GT: Still can't believe the Flames got Coronato at 13 OA. Still early days, but have to think he goes in the top 5 in a redraft... As pointless as those exercises are.

I like the 4th line.

Oesterle played himself out of the lineup.

are we trying to keep his contract down by not giving him any credit??

Agreed about Hanifin....dont ever remember him with a game that poor.

You and others thought Sharangovich looked OK/good....i thought he was very uninspiring. Didnt look very engaged and was very meh.

Not sure Oesterle/Tanev is a very good duo.

All early days of course.

Fully agree Markstrom won the game for flames. Think he’s going to have to play like last night for the first 10-15 games , while Calgary tries to figure out the d zone. Not huge into fancy stats but last night they matched the eye test.

Kind of felt like the type of win they would secure under Hartley but the two points is all that matters at the end of the day. Hopefully they can play a little tighter on Saturday.

Rough game but got the win. And green shoots for Markstom and Huby. Markstrom had a great game. Huby maybe found redemption in those last 90 seconds, which gives him some breathing room as they head on the road.

It was more than just two points tonight. Two huge confidence builders for the two most important players.

The win is nice, but man the team did not look great.

I’d almost prefer to sit Kadri for a while at this point. He was lazy and unengaged last year and I was hoping it was partly because he didn’t like the coach. But if anything he looked even less engaged last night. At this point he just looks like a really bad signing the Flames will be stuck with for a loooong time.

?? perfectly calm

he was the 2nd star of the game, seems odd not to even mention him

he also absolutely dominated the faceoff circle, pretty important for a center

I will agree he had a bad game, but it wasn't because he was disinterested. He just looked lost in the defensive zone, along with most of our team.

Things will get better.

Whenever the Flames win a game like this, I remember what Terry Crisp used to say on such occasions: ‘We'll take the two points.’

I'm glad the team found a way to win last night after facing some adversity - something they never seemed able to do last season, but I couldn't disagree more on the Huberdeau / Kadri assessment as being solid last night.

If that is solid play, this team is royally hooped. It needs a heck of a lot more from ~$17M in cap hit from these two players who were quite vocal about the coach being a big reason for the issues last year.

It's game one of an 82 game season. As much as I wish the Oilers could be as bad all season as they were last night I know fully well it's just a one-off. Players are still shaking the rust for the first month of the season.

I disagree about Huberdeau having a solid night. I guess he did produce and I saw a couple unreal passes that nobody else on the team could make, but overall, I thought he was underwhelming. I'd still like to say way more from him. First game, he'll get better, but he's one of the guys I wanted more from.

This isn't meant to #### on him or say he isn't a good pick, but I am not sure any justification for putting him ahead of Power, MacTavish, Kent Johnson, Wyatt Johnston or Berniers. Guenther and Sillinger are also guys I am not sure he goes above.

Great to see him fitting in to the NHL though and a potential bright future.

It wasn't until Mangiapane was moved to the top line until I really noticed them. I would start out with that trio next game.
