Icon44 Devils extend Lindy Ruff

Quote:
The New Jersey Devils have signed head coach Lindy Ruff to a multiyear contract extension after he led them to their first playoff series win since 2012, it was announced Wednesday.

Ruff, 63, was signed through the 2023-24 season. Terms of the new deal were not disclosed.

"This young, exciting team has developed and thrived under Lindy's stewardship since he joined the Devils' organization," Devils managing partner David Blitzer said in a statement. "Lindy is one of the winningest coaches in NHL history and his extension is well deserved. I'm looking forward to continued team success this upcoming season and beyond."

Didn't they start last season chanting "Fire Lindy"?

They also did a "Sorry Lindy" chant later. Usually these extensions result in the coach being fired the following summer or so it seems.

That Devils forward group is pretty impressive though.

I was thinking that Brunette was the heir apparent, but when he got another opportunity, I don't see how they wouldn't re-up Lindy.

Is he still there??

Holy crap this guy lives some kind of charmed life. He's got to be one of the longest tenured coaches in the League.

This is his 30th consecutive NHL season behind the bench on opening night.

His first 4 years were as an assistant, and recently he was an assistant in NYR for 3 years, otherwise he's been the head coach for 23 of those years. One year he was fired after 17 games but he's started every season for 30 consecutive years.

That is pretty impressive.
