I’m happy to see the team is done with the Schwindt 4C experiment for now, although I’m not writing Schwindt off. I think we’re gonna see a waivers claim of JAD.

Would make far more sense, and given their previous interest.. could be coming here shortly.

Doesn't mean the Schwindt experiment is over. He could be called back up tomorrow.

These were expected moves to maximize LTIR.

So, this gets them as close to the salary cap as possible?

Love LTIR shenanigans, but I do wonder if they make a waiver move regardless. JAD does feel like a potential upgrade over the incumbent.

Kings center Jaret Anderson-Dolan. He's from Calgary and is currently on waivers.

More context from CapFriendly:

All this stuff kinda makes my head spin so I have no further comment!

Edit: Don't think this is possible though because the Flames have already assigned Honzek to Vancouver.

I'm sorry, how/why did Hunt make this roster?

Look at his competition. The only player that I think might have been able to take his place is zary. That said I think it’s better for zary to start season on wranglers. If I had to guess they will try hunt first and if he doesn’t cut it then probably schwindt, followed by zary.

IF the Flames make a claim, im not sure they wouldnt consider Lavoie over Dolan.

People put way, way too much stock in the opening night roster. The Flames have submitted a list of players that 1) they can dress for opening night, and 2) can provide them as much cap-flexibility as they need. "Making this roster" doesn't mean much of anything about several of the players's position on the team.

I guess if the Flames are setting up their roster to maximize LTIR after they set their opening night roster today, then that implies no waiver claims?

My preference would have been for Zary to make the team, but I think starts in the AHL is probably a better idea, getting him up to game-speed and making him comfortable in a high-impact role. My hope/expectation is that he is back up with the Flames by November.

They could make a waiver claim, but they would have to immediately waive a player today. Hunt or Gilbert being the obvious candidates depending on the position they pick up.
