Hittin' the ol' Dusty trail
I thought this made sense to post on here. Last week we lost Percy "Dusty" Woznow. Many Flames fans may remember leaving games and seeing Dusty out on the corner in his red long underwear encouraging people to come to the bar, no matter the weather. Those old enough to go in may also remember his wife Agnes running the show inside. I remember my dad driving us home from the 'Dome and waving at Dusty out the window. Dusty and Agnes were also a huge part of the Calgary Grey Cup Committee for decades. RIP Dusty.

I am a little too young to give any real story. But I remember going to my first Flames game and my dad tell us to wave and say hi to Dusty when we walked past. I remember it was a god foresaken cold night, but he was out there in his long johns talking to the people.

NE Corner of 11 Street and Olympic Way...
Before the underpass went in.
I've heard may anecdtoal stories of players and adventures at Dustys.
Was a Stampede go to place as well when it was around.

My face is a bum!

Does anyone have pictures of the original Dusty's? Was Coyotes in the exact same building, or just the same block? (or neither? haha).

If my memory is correct, they did a full rebuild and then it opened as Coyotes. That building than became one of the iterations of Cowboys.
Dusty's was smaller. It also had peanuts and everyone would eat them and drop the shells on the ground. Hugely popular place to go during Stampede.

Very friendly and fun guy. But in the context of the Flames: many fans knew him because he'd be on the street after games wearing a cowboy hat and red Flames long underwear with a "six-shooter" belt on.
Also, from the obit.: "...he decided to open a bar in the building he had, which he was renting out to a few businesses; one of which was storing a few thousand seats for the Saddle Dome which was being built at the time. Dusty’s Barn Dance and Saloon was opened in 1985, where his true colors came out."
