Downtown street parking question

Hello,

I almost never park downtown, but I will need to do so soon.

I see that some less-busy streets on the west end have 3-hour street parking that the sign says 9am-6pm. Does it mean it is free before 9am?

Also, if say I need to park from 8am - 11am, do I just pay for 2 hours? Can I pay on those machines on the side of the road in advance when I arrive at 8am?

You can also use the Calgary Parking Authority App to pay on your phone or online.

Yes, but be careful because some streets can't be parked on before 8:30am.

No, not with the machines (I think). You can use the CPA app and start a session at 9:00.

I know, but you have to preload a minimum of $25 into the account, which will probably take me 10 years to use them up

If you setup your licence plate numbers on the webpage on your account, you can start and end sessions simply by texting.

This is the method that I use.

Steps:
1. Park, and note the code posted eg "9010"
2. text "start 9010" to the Park Plus contact.
3. when leaving, text "end 9010" to the contact.
4. you recieve a text saying how much you paid and how much money you have left in acct.

If you park somewhere at 8, and the paid parking only starts at 9, it automatically starts at 9 for you.

Exactly, where the hell and how long are you parking? Its $4.50/hr in the core.

If you are parking for 10 minute increments just don't pay.

Most avenues (E-W) have restrictions on parking before 830am. Most streets (N-S) do not.

You're in luck, west end of downtown has more on-street parking. Once you go east of 5 Street things get more expensive.
