No More Paste: Canucks.com forums shut down
Bingo is going to have to look elsewhere to get his fix of glue to eat:

In a message that fans first started noticing late Friday, roughly around the end of the Canucks’ 7-1 win over the Calgary Flames at the Young Stars Classic in Penticton, the site’s administrators revealed that the forums would be closing at the end of September.
The message reads:
“Dear Canucks fans and forum users,
“We want to thank you for your passion, your millions of posts and your interest in our team and this site. It has been an incredible journey and an entertaining experience. Unfortunately, the time has come to shut down this forum and turn the page on what has been an incredible novel to read. It will remain active until the end of the month and be closed October 1st.

Wow.
I sometimes use their off topic forum to discuss local Vancouver issues. Really is end of an era. The forum format was insanely popular starting around the late 90s.
My guess is the owners don't want to deal with the liability issues too. We may see them migrate to a private site.
Even this forum is dwindling, with membership slowly dropping over time.

I hadn’t realized team-hosted fan forums were still a thing. I guess the Flames still have one (I checked) but it wasn’t very popular to begin with
I know there’s Reddit, which is popular, but I dislike the format.

Not so much dwindling as fallen off a cliff. 50 new users in 2023, with ten of those having ten or more posts. Two of those ten, Spurs (moon) and fotze2 (I forget) , are returning users.
Couple big factors in play for the reason, one CP controls, one they don't but at this point you'll see less and less users every year. Aging user base and no actual new users.

Aging user base is a factor in most forums. Young people don't rely on forums the same way.

r/hockey is super soft. HF at least has some old school guys. Both aren’t great, but HF has some good sub forums, like History of Hockey

This forum can be pretty intimidating, it still makes me respect scorpian so much what he went through as a new poster. There is no better place for flames news and prospect info, but im not surprised there are not a lot of new posters.

Will there be some sort of Calgary Puck immigration amnesty period?

Much like beer and brain cells it’s important to cull the weak.
If you can’t handle an anonymous internet forum, you’re going to struggle mightily when exposed to actual adversity.
Truth be told, I think the mods here do an excellent job maintaining the rules and standards to keep the place inclusive and safe.

New posters (not the troll sort) would be refreshing to some but maddening to the long time regular posters who have become accustomed to very specific exchanges, language and humour here particular to their age bracket and managed to mostly homogenize the type of exchanges that go on because they hammer down anything that looks too out of place.
If the Flames had success again and we saw an large influx of next generation posters it would be very interesting around here seeing the usual subjects try to keep up with hassling all the newbies who don't know what's what. They might not get any sleep in trying to deal out enough blows on every instance of zoomer attitudes and language. I guess the hidden blessing in the mediocrity of the team is the unpopularity of the Flames has allowed the old dogs to keep their safe haven for yelling at clouds and Seinfeld references.

Makes me appreciate this place all the more.
We've some outstanding folks here. I'm certainly more or less informed to allot on here as CP is extremely resourceful.
Yeah we get a little bent and bent out of shape at times but for the most part we put it behind us move on and are able to continue to enjoy it here.
Oh. And with that being said....thanks Bingo and Moderators. Creating and maintaining a forum such as this place has more responsibilities than we can likely imagine.
Some of the biggest impacts I've seen on here have been during the floods in 2013 and how we all helped those impacted.
A.poster who lost his place to a fire....posters who lost pets....anyone else needing suggestions for any kind of help.
Some of the yearly traditions created by posters and continued are pretty sweet I must say.

Why the heck would they keep that forum active all summer, then shut it down just over a week before the season starts? Canucks fans are weird..
