Default 2026 Olympic participation. What are the lineups?

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/nhlpa-h...tenure/sn-amp/

With the NHLPA pushing for participation, what does Team Canada look like in a few years? Team USA? Who is favoured?

Let’s see your predictions.

My team Canada:
Bedard - McDavid - Marner
Marchand - Crosby - McKinnen
Suzuki - Point - ??
K. Johnson - Barzal - W. Johnson

Chabot - Makar
Morrissey - Power
Theodore - Chychrun

Levi
Hill
Thompson

For the record, I think USA will win 🥇

I think Dylan Cozens for sure, I’d take him right now over some of the players you listed there.

Hill, Thompson?

I guess you want the USA to win.

Not adding anything to this, but I think you'll see that goaltenders will vary year to year dramatically. Guys who are hot this year will fall off next and so forth so we won't know who will be the go to goaltenders until about 2 years from now.

As for the lineup, I think Crosby will be retired by then, and Marchand won't be the same player. This year he may fall off.

I don’t see how Bedard doesn’t make the team at that point.

No NHL participation, Nigel Dawes son Legin Dawes captains team Canada to a 4th place finish with Dustin Boyd's son Nutdis Boyd as assistant captain. Russia also not allowed to play due to the Ukraine conflict, so with no NHL players and no Russians, South Korea steamrolls everyone and claims their first gold.

Who are the Canadian alternatives? Hart? Skinner?

Team USA could be really really good:

Robertson - Matthews - Eichel
B Tkachuk - J Hughes - M Tkachuk
Keller - T Thompson - Tuch
Larkin - Beniers - Connor

Gaudreau/Zegras/Boeser/Guentzel/Boldy/etc

Slavin - Fox
Q Hughes - McAvoy
Werenski - Seth Jones

Hanifin/Trouba/K Miller/Pesce/etc

Oettinger
Swayman/Hellebuyck

Forward

Cozens - McDavid - Marner
Thomas - MacKinnon - Kyrou
Huberdeau - Point - Konecny
??? - Suzuki - Barzal
???

The 12/13 forward spots would go to Stone, Crosby, and/or any youngins that take the leap into stardom between now and 2026 (e.g. Mercer, Guenther, Johnson, Bedard, Lafreniere, Byfield, MacTavish, Johnston, Perfetti, Quinn, etc.)

Defense

Power - Makar
Morrissey - Chychrun
Chabot - Byram
Theodore

There's also Weegar, Doughty, Toews, Pulock, Pelech, and Rielly that would be in contention, as well as any youngins that leap into stardom between now and 2026 (e.g. Drysdale, Dobson, Sanderson, Guhle, Clarke, Schneider, etc.)

Goaltending

Hart
Skinner
Thompson

Forwards are still stacked and defense still looks great/deep, but that goaltending is really sad. It's not like there's any promising prospects coming up to take the reigns in net either

No Jonathan Marchessault? I know recency bias, but he did just win the Conn Smythe and has been more productive in recent years than some of the wingers listed.

Also gotta think Tristan Jarry makes the team, and may even be the potential starter in net.

You kinda do know unless the thought process is that a 23 year old is going to be Canada’s goaltender.

Canada is not even in the top 5 for goaltending in the world, that won’t change in the next three years.

Americans
Russians
Fins
Swedes

They are all better. Germans and Czech’s are competitive with Canada for starting goaltending.

I'd be shocked if he's even a remote consideration.

We'll see at the time but I'd be shocked if Hill is a consideration.

it's hard to predict goalies a season in advance, much less 3 years.

These Canada teams look great, but the US teams look ridiculous.

YOu really kind of don't know though....3 years from now any guy could be on fire for some set time and be the best in the game in that window of time.

Canada could also be without any real great G's for those games.

We just do not know.

"Goalies are voodoo", isnt just a saying, its based on the wild swings that particular position sees year after year.

Predicting doom and gloom 3 years out is fools play.
