This is a good fit imo. They lack that top line guy and if he clicks with his new team, this could be huge.

Hurricanes looking like a contender, and still have a good prospect pool.

Canes are a bit weird. Been pretty dominant for a while now in the regular season but haven't been able to go deep in the playoffs.

No elite talent.
Tough time scoring.

I'd consider Aho and Slavin (defensively) elite.

Weren't their top 2 scorers injured in the playoffs?
They probably beat Florida if not for that.

Didn't they just go to the Eastern Conference Finals? Isn't that deep?

This is what good management looks like. How do they have such a stacked team and still have room for a signing like this?

Trades and letting guys walk when they want too much and finding cheaper replacement for the same production.
If you read the article on Eric Tulsky you will get a great insight into how they operate

Decent management. They've made blunders of their own but for the most part they have a coach and a culture that guys don't mind despite it being a less desirable city. They also are very careful about handing out terrible deals while letting guys go when not a core player. Ahem Treliving.

Carolina has the best analytics department in the league. Their cap management, and decision making are elite

Owner also fosters the environment where their management can work these wonders.
They were laughed at when he first took over and some of the old guard were exited.

Ya I'd totally hate being a fan of a team that doesn't go deep in the playoffs vs a team that rarely makes the playoffs.
That would be a fate worse than death.
