2023 unqualified RFAs. Flames made QO to all 3 of their RFAs

Today is the deadline to present QO to RFAs. If a RFA does not get a QO, they become UFA on July 1st.

Why would a team not qualify an RFA?

1. The QO is too much for their production and/or to fit into the team's cap space
2. If the player has arbitration rights, the player may take them to arbitration with a strong case that will end up below the walk away threshold, leaving the team with the team stuck with the arbitration award
3. Just want to move on.

Bear needs shoulder surgery due to an injury at the 2023 World Championship and will be out 6 months.

Ethan Bear might have some regrets about playing for Team Canada at the 2023 World Championship without an NHL contract.

The defenceman came home with a gold medal but also a significant shoulder injury that required surgery. That surgery is expected to keep him out of action for six months, meaning he would not only miss out on his offseason training but would also miss the start of next season.

That's a guy I wouldn't mind taking a chance with. NHL experience, can skate, plays bottom 6. Still has top 9 potential. Just hasn't worked out yet and has always been utilized down the depth chart.

Sprong is a bit surprising. 21 goals and 45 points in just over 60 games.

Another bottom 6 guy that I would absolutely like to have. Big body, kills penalties, skates like the wind, and if Oilers keep his brother Ryan, I'd like to hopefully have the better McLeod and rub it in their faces.

Reminds me of Peter Mueller (head issues stopped his career)
Guy had all the tools, amazing hands and a great rookie season.
1 hit to the head and he was never the same.
