The Flames Are Not Rebuilding: A Safe Space to Vent
It is fair to be upset about the Flames trying to stay competitive.
I am of the opposite opinion as I always want my hockey team to win, but for those who want to complain about it and outline the reasons why the Flames are doomed to mediocrity and irrelevancy, Please do it here and we can leave the rumors and draft/trade chatter alone where it belongs.
Cheers,

Got younger and added a pick for a player over 30
"They're not rebuilding guys!"

How do we know yet ?
Acquiring a 25 (by 2 weeks) player doesnt throw options out the window
They certainly don’t want to rebuild , but let’s see what happens with Lindholm

The Flames will have a better draft position next year so they will be sort of rebuilding.

If they spend this summer turning UFA's into RFA's and picks I will be ok with it.
If they trade Lindholm, they likely are not a playoff team and could easily be picking in the top 10. Top 5 or 3 is better but there are some bad teams out there right now and there is a lottery. Getting younger and hoping for some luck in the lottery just once isn't that bad and it's easier to be a fan of a young team that misses the playoffs than an old team.

Unless your name is Murray Edwards, you have no vote. So you - like I - live with whatever they do. Blowing yourself up over it doesn't make any sense at all.
Am I doing it right?

The only way to stop the pain is to see serious ticket sale decline and low jersey sales.

They got younger, cheaper, faster and got a pick.
Isn’t that what he should be doing?

I like the direction Conroy is taking with this team.

I love how the “rebuild” crowd makes it sound like a professional team should suit up 21 AHL players.
All teams need a blend of players from 19 to 35 and you have to have good competitive players who push each other or you won’t build a winning team in 4-5 years.
They got younger, faster, cheaper and another pick in a good draft - is this really win now?????
Rebuild, retool use whatever buzzwords you like, it’s been done this way everywhere. You can start to worry if we offered Toffoli an extension or overpay a UFA on July 1st, pretty sure that’s not happening so be thankful.
This is different and refreshing.

I think it’s fair to be disappointed, and quite frankly this team is due for the slightest glimmer of good news. A guy who was a healthy scratch and a 3rd round pick seems light for a teams top scorer. But again I don’t know anything about the market, and people are lecturing mostly anyone who isn’t pleased with the result. We definitely did get worse though which is something that will hopefully yield more clarity on this teams future as the season goes on.

Pretty sure that’s going to go hand in hand with a 25 win season generated by selling assets for picks only.

Here are my thoughts on rebuilding.
A successful rebuild is just as hard to pull off a winning a Stanley Cup. If it were easy, everyone would do it. You'd see a very clear delineation of teams in the league: those who are competing for a cup, and those who are rebuilding. Instead, what you see is about 5-7 teams going all in, 4-5 teams blatantly tanking, and about 20 teams in "try to get in the playoffs and see what happens" territory.
The idea that we'll trade our prime assets in Lindholm, Hanifin, Backlund and Toffoli and draft 3 or 4 times in the first round in a deep draft is and has always been wishful thinking. On top of that, even if we did draft 3 or 4 times this draft, the hope that all of them will turn out to be impact players 3-4 years down the road is even more wishful thinking. Look at the Monahan draft as the perfect example that hits close to home, with us missing on both Poirier and Klimchuk (and having to dump Monahan at age 27).
What I find hilarious is that the Toffoli trade probably takes us closer to a true rebuild just because the return was pretty bad and our team will be a lot worse next year. And then I read some comments in that thread about people not following the Flames because they're going to suck. It's like "Rebuild! Rebuild!" "Wait no, not like that!"

I think they are rebuilding, they can call it whatever they want. I'm not making a judgement on the trade, but there's no way Lindholm sees that trade for Toffoli and thinks "yes, Calgary is going to be a winner soon, I should be here". The dominos are falling. Whether the Flames will acknowledge that or not might be a different story, but its very likely this team sees some lean times in the coming years, and will get some high picks because of it. Whether Conroy gets great value for the exiting pieces remains to be seen, but I think its pretty obvious this team is entering a rebuild, voluntarily or not.

It seems worse than win now and pretend that we are a competitive team and that we can stay competitive while getting younger, when in reality we are mediocre and this moves keeps us mediocre while not improving us short term or long term.

I already cancelled my 3 seats at the end of the season, they were pretty expensive and I didn't feel like I was getting very good value. I also wasn't happy about losing Tkachuk and Monahan the way we did so I told them when they asked me about cancelling. I'm sure there will be a few more people cancel, as is always the case.
I've been a fan since they moved here and spent a ton on season tickets and merchandise, but for now I think I'm content to just watch on TV or in a pub with some friends. Games are pretty expensive nowadays anyhow - and that's not limited to just Calgary it's a widespread issue.

We’re losing Toffoli, Hanifin, Backlund and Lindholm.
There is zero chance the team is going to be better next season.

Jersey sales don’t really impact the Flames as jersey sale revenue is split evenly amongst the 32 teams
