Chicago is really loading up on the large belligerent vets to surround Bedard with.

Chicago is putting good professionals around Bedard. It makes sense to me.

They also have the option at the deadline to trade them too.

A UFA as well, so just his rights. Blackhawks want to be competitive next year, and honestly why not?

Not making the playoffs competitive, but avoid being the worst team in the league next year

A seventh round pick will more than likely be worth nothing but seems strange for a team to give anything up for a player who will be a UFA in a few days with only a handful of teams who would be interested. Also while +/- is a team stat how someone on Tampa ended as a -28 is beyond me.

I like what the Blackhawks are doing here. Setting Bedard up for success.

If this gives Chicago the upper hand to get the deal done that is almost assured to be more impactful than a 7th round pick. Especially for a team with as many picks as they had.

Perry is a prick but seems to be liked wherever he goes and could help Bedard with adapting to the NHL.
