Default Thoughts on Max Comtois?

Per Friedman:

Quote:
There is word that it is unlikely ANA will give a qualifying offer to Max Comtois this week. The forward is expected to become a UFA, available to everyone
This is a big, quick, and skilled forward that is coveted by all teams, but he is definitely at a buy-low moment of his career. He put up 33 points in 55 games a couple years ago, but only had 19 in 64 last year. According to a few forums, he has struggled with puck-luck, and seems to need a change of scenery.

If we could get him for under 2.5 million per year, I think it is a no-brainer to give it a shot. Anything over that might be a bit of a risk, but him being so young, inconsistency is expected.

Thoughts?

I'd be surprised if he didn't end up in Montreal or Toronto TBH.

If the Flames have the cap space, he could be a solid reclamation project. He's had an awful last two seasons, but so has the entire Anaheim team, so it's hard to judge where he is exactly in his development.

Just another reclamation project for me.

If the Flames were to sign him, I’d be more than happy to have an open mind and give him a shot, but it won’t bother me at all if he signs elsewhere.

Why the heck wouldn’t they qualify him?

As much as it kills me to say it, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see him sign in Edmonton for a 1-2 yr deal to get some inflated stats playing with the wonder twins so he can cash in on a future contract.

Was he cleared in that World Jr scandal? Or was he one of the suspected ones. He was a member of that team I believe. I don’t mean to rule him in or out because of that, but it’s a factor that has to be considered since it’s odd the Ducks aren’t qualifying him.

I’ve been an advocate for picking up Comtois for a couple of years now. If he’s available we should be kicking tires with his agent. Big, skilled, and mean.

I was thinking Montreal, but they already have Josh Anderson doing the exact same thing.

This is a perfect guy to get during a rebuild because you can offer him every opportunity to succeed and then keep him long term or flip him. Love the idea.

If I remember correctly he was highly touted in his draft year, and big bodied forwards do take longer to develop their game.
Surprised he's not getting a QO, would definately give him a go.

Ok for free, why not

If the Flames are selling, this would make sense. Can't be all prospects under 20

I'd look at a short term ~2 million deal on him. Flames should kick tires for sure.
