NYI Draft Recap
88 – Alexander Rykov. One of a handful of players we had considered before we traded down to this spot (we had originally had our sights on Luca Cagnoni). Rykov had a low-key historic season in the VHL and we're hopeful he can play a lot of KHL games next year.
95 – Connor Levis. Look at this guy's numbers and size compared to a guy like Cal Ritchie's. Almost identical. Except Levis was playing behind a couple of top-end NHL centre prospects in Kamloops and still put up a point per game. Honestly surprised he's not ranked higher in a lot of places. Think he could be a steal.
117 – Joey Willis. There are some who think Willis is one of the best defensive forwards in the entire CHL. Elite Prospects has him ranked 49th overall. More of a project but I'm very curious.
123 – Zeb Forsfjall. On par with a lot of his peers in the Swedish J20 league, and was in fact the captain of his team despite only being 17. Watched him at the Hlinka last year. Hope he can establish himself as a full-timer in the SHL soon.
125 – Brandon Svoboda. Honestly, didn't have much of a read on who to pick at this spot. Ended up going with a big centre who Central Scouting seems to like. Hopefully his size and USHL production translates into him being reasonably impactful at Boston University.
140 – Collin MacKenzie. Biggest swing of the draft. Isn't ranked anywhere. Probably won't be drafted this year. But his OHL numbers are off the charts. I thought we'd all agreed to stop underrating small goalies? Who knows.
Fun times. Hopefully a couple of these guys turn into something.
