Congrats to Backlund. If it really is the end of the road for him in Calgary you really can’t ask for more from a member of the team both on and off the ice. Everything him and his wife have done for the community will always be remembered. I hope to see him win a cup before he hangs them up

He joins excellent company -- McDonald, Nieuwendyk, and Iginla. The Flames are the only team with four winners of the award; that's something to be very proud of. The community work this organization does is second to none.

So deserving. He is a wonderful ambassador for the team and the league.
One of the charities that he supports (Parachutes for Pets) was hit with a theft this weekend. It is an organization that helps underprivileged people who need support for their pets. With the support of people like Mikael, they have saved pets who would have been euthanized due to the expense of vet care. Due to the theft, they urgently need cat food.

If Backlund signs I would assume there is a good possibility of him becoming the captain.
Backs is exactly the guy you put your young talent with to learn how to play the game properly. He has propped up countless Calgary Flames wingers and made them better players throughout his career.
Craig Conroy has been present for most of those years, he is well aware the value Mikael Backlund brings.
Awesome news, the guy has put in some tireless work for many, many years in the community. Such a gem.
Congrats Backs, so well deserved!
