Gone Before Greatness Thread
Somewhat of a morbid topic, but I just seen an article on Freddie Mercury and just got thinking about people who were gone too soon who would've made a huge contribution to society if not for their untimely death. The natural tendency is singers or actors/actresses, but truly remarkable people are probably scientists, physicists, doctors, etc.
But I want to keep it open because so many of these people were before my time that I'd like to know what people's thoughts of were about particular people who truly were cutting edge for their time and would've gone on to be something special (no limitations on what they did)? I thought that would make for an interesting thread.

Henry Moseley was one of the great scientific minds of the early 20th century making huge breakthroughs in physics/chemistry. Chose to enlist in WWI and was killed at Gallipoli before he turned 30.

Jimi Hendrix. Every bit of music of his that youve heard was made in 2.5 year period and he was just getting started. It makes me sad to think what a multi decade catalogue of Jimis music would sound like. What would he have done in the 70s when everyone started imitating him? Would he have had an 80s synth phase? Collaborate with prince?

Pierre and Marie Curie.
Literally unlocked the atomic age with their research on radioactive materials. Unfortunately, they didn't understand what radiation poisoning was and both died relatively young.
Oddly enough, Pierre Curie was killed in a road accident at just 47, even though he had shown early signs of radiation sickness. Marie Curie had a short illness of pernicious anemia (radiation sickness) and died at 66. Multiple Nobel awards for their work.
Honorable mention to Henri Becquerel for his contributions.
Marie Curie is especially amazing given that women scientists were exceedingly rare until the mid 20th century.

She was my first thought, when I saw the thread, but 66 isn't young - at least it wasn't then. And she lived long enough to have made enormous contributions to science.
