Four children survive for 40 days in the Amazon jungle
This is absolutely incredible. 4 kids, the youngest only a year old, survive for over a month lost in the Amazon after a plane crash. The 13 year old girl has to be absolutely hard as nails

I can hear producers scrambling now to book these kids on the next season of Alone.
Seriously though, wonderful to hear these types of stories. They look pretty malnourished, but they're still here, and that's all that matters. Incredible will to live.

Read about this earlier. Absolutely nuts. They are crediting the children's indigenous family with teaching the children what kind of food to scavenge to stay alive.
After having spent time in a jungle nearby, I can say that there are many things in this jungles that can kill you besides malnutrition. Scorpions, poison snakes, Jaguars, poisonous centipedes, etc.. Absolutely incredible.

That is amazing.
Having a 1 year old, I can't imagine him surviving a few days with just other kids, let alone in the rainforest!
As mentioned, that 13 year old must be incredibly capable & skilled.
Sad that they lost their mother in the crash though.

This sounds like one of the adventure books I used to read as a kid, but incredible for them to all survive in real life.

I cant believe this! They survive a plane crash, lose their mother, have to live alone for 40 days in the f'n Amazon. All with a 1 year old. This is one of the most amazing survival stories I've ever heard.
That 1 year old will have a crazy story for life and probably won't have a single memory of it.

Probably one of the best stories of recent years. For a 13 year old to lead them under those circumstances is incredible.

Manuel Ranoque, father of the two youngest children, told reporters outside the hospital Sunday that the oldest of the four surviving children — 13-year-old Lesly Jacobombaire Mucutuy — told him their mother was alive for about four days after the plane crashed on May 1 in the Colombian jungle.
Authorities and family members have said the children survived eating cassava flour and seeds, and that some familiarity with the rainforest's fruits were also key to their survival. The kids are members of the Huitoto Indigenous group.
Gen. Pedro Sanchez, who was in charge of the rescue efforts, said that the children were found 5 kilometers (3 miles) away from the crash site in a small forest clearing. He said rescue teams had passed within 20 to 50 meters (66 to 164 feet) of where the children were found on a couple of occasions but had missed them.

"The one thing that [13-year-old Lesly] has cleared up for me is that, in fact, her mother was alive for four days," Mr Ranoque told reporters outside the hospital.
"Before she died, their mum told them something like, 'You guys get out of here. You guys are going to see the kind of man your dad is, and he's going to show you the same kind of great love that I have shown you," he said.
Details have been emerging about the children's time in the jungle and their miraculous rescue - including the first things the children said when they were found.

Amazing feat of survival, not only did a 13 and 9 year old make it they did it while looking after a toddler and a baby, I guess it shows these skills can be learned at a young age.
