Default Lebrun: Flames "getting late in the process" of hiring a GM

Should be its own thread to help us "move on" from Treliving.

If they think he’s the guy then there’s no point in delaying things as there’s a lot of things to get done between now and the draft.

The interview process is valuable. You get to pump serious hockey minds for outside opinions about your team and the direction that they would go.

So yes, there is a point to delaying.

It could be that he is the GM but they just haven’t announced it publicly. He is overseas at the moment. Perhaps they’re also waiting on the outcome of the Wranglers do they can simultaneously announce Mitch Love as the HC.

Unlikely it actually plays out this way, insiders usually have a way of sniffing these things out. If the Flsmes had an announcement and wanted to control it, they shouldn’t sit on it. But…..who knows…..

yup. When the Steelers needed a new GM last year, they ended up promoting from within, as expected - but they interviewed 16 other candidates in the process for the very same reason. Always valuable to pick the brains of outside candidates.

at the same time, it makes sense to get this done mid May. It's six weeks to the draft and we have neither a GM nor a HC, might as well get the ball rolling at some point.

Hmmm. Not sure I like Conroy (as GM).

I was hoping they bring in an outsider with no ties to the organization.

Man, how bad did that interview go with the Leafs guy if the next day they're set on hiring Conroy? Lol

Nope, he's stated unequivocally he does not want the job.

So I would imagine this is Conroy or they don't want to battle other teams for Brandon Pridham or Eric Tulsky

My glass half empty take is they talked to a lot of people outside the org and they all proposed strategies of trading expiring deals and collecting assets for a season or two but Maloney has been told that no one's getting moved.

I think Conny was always the front runner. But I think it was also a great and fantastic idea to go out vette a slew of candidates to ensure you've levied as much info as possible into making sure it's the right choice.

If it does end up Connie, which is fine in my books as any concerns I had with him being GM are now not in org any longer, at least they measured his resume against a strong list of candidates that did not win the job over their top guy.

Conroy was a Finalist for the Buffalo job. I think his vision is much different than Tres

I suspect it is, just glad Sutters gone so he has a fresh slate.
