Favorite flames players since the cup
Lot of conversation about how unlikeable our group was this year.. Got me thinking, I've always had a player I've been super excited about on the Flames EXCEPT for this year... I super hope that changes next year.
Here are the players I loved to follow in the last 34 years:
1989-1999 = Fleury
1999-2000 = Iggy / Brathwaite
2000 - 2013 = Iggy
2013 = Monahan
2014 - 2022 = Johnny
2022-2023 = no one? Duehr? Wolf?
That's how sad this last year was for me, nobody I was really pumped to cheer for.. Curious about other people's lists..

I kinda really like Duehr, as I saw him go from AAAA player (or so I thought) to real NHLer. And he never seemed to take a shift off. Of course, if he did, he might never get another one.

Short list for me, Iggy and Kipper for the longest time were my favorites.
Gaudreau was also one I looked up to because as a short guy myself, I felt like he was the one that really opened the league up to more skill players that are under 5’10.
Bennett was a huge favorite of mine and now that he’s gone I still haven’t latched onto another yet.
Weegar is getting there though.

it was an awful season for the team and the organization, no question. But the suggestion that there are no likeable players on the team is pretty ridiculous.

Was too young to really enjoy the Flames before the late 90s.
So it was briefly Fleury, but for me Iggy defined Hockey. Iggy was everything to me.
After him, it was Monahan.
Now, it's nobody really. Maybe Zads.

A few names come to mind:
Robyn Regehr
Sergei Makarov
Ronnie Stern
German Titov
And I had an odd soft spot for Nylander.

Kiprusoff
Iginla
Phaneuf (well, the first couple of years)
Monahan
Gaudreau
Giordano
A few on the "second tier" as well -- Brodie, Ferland, Tkachuk
On the current roster I'd say Andersson and Markstrom (sigh), although I'm pretty excited about Wolf.
