Josh Jooris Award!
Welcome to this years Josh Jooris Award nomination.
As we all know the Josh Jooris award goes to the player who best exemplifies
" Coming out of nowhere to earn a roster spot on opening night!"
rules: can not be in what is generally considered our top five of prospects.
can not have played in the nhl.
to me the guy we are going to be talking about a lot more after training camp is William Stormgren. Now I have him just outside of our general top five ( Wolf, Zary, Pelletier, Coronato, Philips ( if he stays which I doubt )
when you look at the package, size, skating, skill, vision, shot Stormgren has all of them. He might be a victim of lack of stability as he has been on a number of teams in his development and I think the stability of the ahl might go a long way if not an nhl spot. He doesn't get talked about much but I think that will change come training camp.
Honorable mention: Ilya Nikolyev.
who is your nominee?

Ilya Solovyov.
Quietly rounding into a decent stay-at-home defenceman. Can see him on the bottom pairing.

Nit like the team is in the playiffs and whoever we pick at 16 would probably automatically be in our top five

Does Klapka qualify? He had a really good camp and has really started to come around in the AHL,

If you really want a left field nomination: Mitch McLain.
29 years old (!). Has never played an NHL game but I've been able to watch him a handful of times this season.
Ok, he'll never be even a mid-tier (or even a low one, LOL) offensive producer but he might make an effective 13/14 forward guy who's always hungry, mean and could be a decent forechecker. His teammates seem to like playing with him and is used in all situations.

Klaapa or Walker seem like the obvious choices if Walker didn't quite win it last year

Going with my favorite dark horse Emilio Petterson, he took a decent step this past season, if he takes another one and we move on from Backlund/Lindholm I could see him snagging a spot .

Walker Duehr? He's ineligible.
Was gonna say Schwindt but he played 3 games for Fla. So Kuz.

Yep, Duehr is graduated and on a one-way deal next year. He's made it. I know being on a one-way deal doesn't mean he can't be sent down, but the implication of the deal is that they assume he has already proven himself. The only reason why he is with the Wranglers now is because he is eligible and so why not.
Pettersen is an interesting prospect. What's the deal on him? Is he the kind of player that needs to play in the top 6 if he makes it, or could he play an energy role and work his way up the line-up?
