I wish the Flames would do the same instead of handing out extensions a day after an incredibly disappointing season.

New owner, new staff. Pretty common.
Now cue the Treliving to Pittsburgh rumour...

Wasn't Burke only there for 2 seasons? Seems a bit early to cut him loose as it takes more than 2 years to properly measure how well a President has done. Though maybe this is just ownership getting involved in hockey decisions and not agreeing with Burke's 5-year vision.

Missing the playoffs not too acceptable for that team.

No-brainer they would interview him if he becomes available. Treliving is going to have a lot of options.

This season was kind of a disaster though as a lot of moves they made blew up in their face and given the age of Crosby and Malkin it's critical that mistakes are kept to a minimum.

I question how many NHL teams have a vision that extends beyond the next season or two.

It does seem a little odd in comparison.
I'm very curious to hear what Treliving and Sutter have to say today.
As for the Penguins, even though these guys were fired, they really already set the team down a path. Going to be difficult to change course unless Crosby, Malkin, and Letang are good with bottoming out for the end of their careers.

I figured they would give Burke another shot at hiring a GM that is what I thought the purpose of a POHO was? With him gone I think the Treliving to Pitt would be a little less likely but definitely still a possibility

Taking a while to get to 5000

I mean, when your core includes Crosby and Malkin I kind of get it.

Meanwhile, Flames hand out extensions to try and keep the team as is, because anything can happen!!!!!

Burke isn't known for a long term vision. He got lucky in Anaheim that he inherited a strong team and then Pronger basically brought himself over.
He messed up the Leafs with short-term vision.
He helped mess up the Flames with short-term vision.

Not surprised, most definitely the path the Flames should have followed
However, my guess Treliving will leave the Flames and join the Penguins.

The Penguins have $20M in available cap-space next year (on an $83.5M cap) with no big RFAs, while Jason Zucker, Triston Jarry and Brian Dumoulin are really their only notable UFAs.
They could be a fun team to watch this Summer.

Damn. That would be a tempting opportunity. If Tre goes there he could easily turn them around in a huge way right away.

One thing about that fanbase is that they only support winners. If they come out and say they are rebuilding, the fans will stop buying tickets.

I would say Burke did a great job in stabilizing our team not hurting us.
Not sure how his vision was short term. He fired one of the worst gms in team history and put together a solid and respected front office and brought back respect.
He did far more good for us than bad.
