Lesser lights keep Flames' playoff hopes alive

If, and it remains a big if, the Flames somehow vault the Jets and make the Stanley Cup playoffs, this game will be worth looking at more closely. On a night the Flames received nowhere near enough from their big-money players against a Ducks team on an eight-game losing skid and staring at strong odds of winning the draft lottery, their depth, all the way to number-two goalie Dan Vladar coming off the bench for the win, proved the difference.

Blackhawks bring losing streak into game against the Flames

TOP PERFORMERS: Elias Lindholm has 21 goals and 42 assists for the Flames. Tyler Toffoli has scored seven goals with eight assists over the last 10 games.

Andreas Athanasiou has scored 16 goals with 15 assists for the Blackhawks. Lukas Reichel has four goals and one assist over the last 10 games.

Calgary Flames prospect update: a March stats rundown

European and college leagues are nearing the end of their playoffs. Canadian major junior is just beginning their post-season. And in pro hockey, the playoffs are still a couple of weeks away.
Amidst all of this looming change, let’s see how the Calgary Flames’ prospects did over the month of March!

FlamesNation Mailbag: Talking lines, Matt Coronato, and the Flames’ future

For the first time this season, the Calgary Flames have won four games in a row. With five games left on the calendar, they sit two points behind the Winnipeg Jets for the final wild-card playoff spot in the Western Conference. And they have a crucial back-to-back set on Tuesday and Wednesday that will probably determine their season.
With all those factors in mind, let’s dive into the mailbag!

Thanks Tsawwassen for posting GDTs for the last week and Dion for Scorch!!!! 5 Games to go folks! Cheer hard!

No excuse for taking the Hawks lightly given the last time these two teams met. It would be nice to see a convincing win.

Little chance of that given the stakes.

Disgustingly, my guys have been in full tank mode since bitchslapping the Bruins on 3/14. Most games they have had a decent early period, then suffer a total collapse. However, there have been a couple of games that they hadn't even mustered a 10th SOG until the 3rd period. There are so many brand new guys, that there has been no cohesion, at all, in game play and execution. Aside from Raddysh, and an occasional burst from Athanasiou, the most consistent play has come from the 4th line plumbers, Anderson (waived on Sunday), Katchouk, and Entwistle.

Toews appears to be reactivated, and will be joining total strangers tonight. Toews and the overrated Connor Murphy are the only guys that have been on the team since 2019.

Mrazek and Stalock have both played heroically, but, have crumbled in the 3rd under the pressure of having a totally inept D beyond the Jones Bros.

I have had a painful time even trying to watch this mess of a team...often rage quitting after an inevitable late 2nd period collapse.

I have joined the ranks of the retired, and have had the twin disappointment of have the worst March weather in decades, here in Utah, keeping me, basically, housebound, since then, and having a totally inept team as my sole sporting distraction since that March 12 event...

The only small consolation was going to a Utah Grizzly game as a retirement gift from my boys, and having this view from my seat (sorry for the size, this boomer has no idea how to reduce!):

I know they shouldn't look past this game, but it looms pretty large.

Hoping for a focused effort tonight, one where they start on time.

Ideally, Flames have a strong first period where they can get multi goal lead heading into the first intermission. And then play a strong, defensive game for the remaining 40 so they can conserve as much energy for tomorrow's game since that one is the biggest game of the season; against a rested team that's playing good again.

HUGE 48 hours here. This more than any point is the season.

Yeah this is a must win for sure. I didn't realize how extreme the Hawks have been in tearing this down. Taylor Raddysh with 37 points is the top scorer left on the roster. Might be a good night to get some younger guys sprinkled into the lineup to get the Energy level up.

Kind of feels like a two team race now with Seattle winning and Nashville losing last night.

Points pace ...

Seattle 99.3
Winnipeg 94.8
Calgary 92.6
Nashville 90.6

Flames have won 4 in a row for the first time? No chance they hit 5 - guaranteed regulation loss tonight.

Losers gonna lose.

Can't wait to see a stellar .300 SV% posted by our tandem tonight LOL
