Fire the goalie coaches
Go get someone who knows what they’re doing.
Hiller 0.918 first season to 0.879 the next
Smith 0.916 then 0.898
Rittich Pacific All-Star to a guy everyone was happy to see leave
Markstrom 0.922 and a vezina nom in his second season to 0.892 this year
Every starter gets worse the more they play here. Every prospect doesn’t develop here.
Not good enough. Go get better or go get Bedard.

Markstrom is the worst starting goalie in the NHL. Maybe the defence isn’t amazing but your $6m starter needs to make some ####ing saves here and there.

Jason LaBarbera has done a great job with Marky, vladar in past years. Jason LaBarbera and his family are great to the community and are wonderful family and have had long journey dealing with there sons autism.
Marky is a good goalie we all saw what this man has done up until the 2nd playoff series meltdown. We will only know how far Marky is in his own head because if your Marky talking to a sports psychologist then ya think we are in some trouble with that contract. Wish you luck Marky but you are frustrating the fans and your team's organization.

Finally, the "fire x" thread I've been waiting for
If they really want to get to the root of the problem, they could start here
No goalie in the carousel of the last decade under the current crew has managed to sustain their numbers over multiple seasons, or improve over their tenure here
Yes, Talbot rebounded. But it was just a one year snapshot. I think if he sticks around he follows the same pattern as the rest
Aside from Smith, whom the desperate oilers snatched up out of the bin when we were done with him, pretty much all the vets that have come through here have come out worse for wear or no longer with an NHL career
This team needs to seriously audit this issue and come to see the evident pattern here
There's no way a goalie with Markstrom's background at only 30 should come in and fall off the horse so fast and look irreparable mentally and lost technically
We clearly don't have the correct people mentoring and guiding these guys
You just hope Vladar doesn't fall to the same fate

Even if the goalie coaches aren’t the problem is there any evidence that they are the solution?

Could they pry Markstrom's guy from Vancouver, if we're not able to trade his contract?

Shouldn't these guys be identifying Markstrom's weak points in his technical game and helping him correct what he isn't seeing firsthand?
I feel like the technical game of every goalie that comes through just disintegrates slowly over time without any notable readjustment or correction, other than them simply trying harder

It's funny that you pose this question like such specific instances in the games negate the overall subpar performance on the season
The .890 is justified because some of the chances were grade A?
You're telling me Skinner hasn't had to stop similar types of chances behind guys that barely backcheck to get his .913 on the season, and Markstrom's situation is unique because the chances were extra, super tough?
Come on. By now you can't surely be clinging on to this argument/justification. There's enough of a body of work now that the situational "give him a mulligan there" argument no longer flies
He was great last year. He's nowhere near that this year

They need to hire away whoever keeps churning out goalies in NYR, probably couldn't outbid them though.
There are so many excuses year after year, game after game, but the Flames haven't developed a great goalie since when? Vernon?

It’s quite simple. It can be true that
1) he is not as good as last year and
2) that the Flames give up more unforced, real high danger (not the model) chances
Bingo pushed back on this, and since, we have seen Kadri with turnovers in back to back games leading to breakaways. Last night, Tkachuk sneaking behind the D and having a clear breakaway was not an anomaly
It’s funny you say ‘you can’t be clinging to …’
The Flames continuing to give up 10 bellers on the first 2 shots should actually stand out to some as a problem. The team has no good reason to put the goalie in that situation
Were the Flames gifted any clear breakaways due to defensive blunders by the opponent?

It's fair to say that it's not an organizational strength when you look at young goaltender development as well as the veteran goaltenders that have come and gone. Under Treliving nobody in his circle gets fired ever unless it's the head coach and his hand picked assistants. The goaltending coaches have jobs for as long as Treliving is the GM. I'm a little worried about what could happen when they get their hands on Wolf. He's been able to overcome his lack of size at every level but his biggest challenge could be overcoming the Jordan Sigalet and his staff's penchant for making goaltenders worse.

Who gets to decide their fate? Treliving or Sutter?
