These fines are meaningless. Unless they go to charity I guess...

Still meaningless. The purpose of fining a player is to make note of his bad behavior and make him think twice about his actions so he doesn't be a bad boy again. The punishment is low enough that $5K sucks to lose but will it really make these guys think twice in the heat of the moment?

That's not really a deterrent. Maybe if they fined him $4785.88 that would teach him for next time!

I was listening to 960 when this happened.

Loubo: Hartman's slash could have broken his arm!!! and then 10 seconds later.
Wills: They have to crack down on that! Remember last time when Gaudreau was slashed 20 times on the wrist here???!!

Like seriously? 20 times? aren't you a professional? lol

Do you remember that game...they were slashing Gaudreau all night and finally broke his hand. 20 times might be accurate

IIRC a fine doesn't even count when looking to see if he's a repeat offender?

EDIT: Also, cap goes up, cost of living goes up, players make way more than when this max was put in place. why is it still so low?

Compare to the fines a coach gets for criticizing officials (often correctly).

There is no way ateam does that much slashing on one guy without being coached to do so.

To be fair, there are different articles stating various numbers.
But
I remember that game and I even think there was a video circulating showing the slashes and it counted 20 or more

Coach probably bought Hartman a shiny new watch and a fancy steak dinner for his trouble. ANY fine-able offense should have automatic suspensions attached. Player safety is a joke in the NHL.

Hope we meet them in the playoffs and Anderson feeds Hartman his teeth.

I remember this game distinctly. I don't remember the number of times, or if 20 might be conflated, but I do recall thinking to myself and texting in my group chat, that Johnny seemed to be getting abused alot with sticks.
