Now that is unexpected. Vrana is a terrific player when healthy.

He’s gotta get claimed, no? Healthy contract but he’s a good player.

Hm. Hate to say it but have to wonder if there were deeper/ worse issues uncovered during his recent stint in the Player Assistance program.
Not sure how we could make it work cap wise, but we should be looking at it.

Not sure I’d be so certain he gets claimed.
That’s decent $, and if the Wings are bailing on him after the player assistance program…wouldn’t that be a red flag?
Hopefully he’s healthy and everything is okay

There's no way he gets past the Coyotes.

Due to the issues and cap value, I would guess he does not get claimed.

If we can put Kylington on LTIR we can take on Vrana, per my capfriendly musings.

there's been and continue to be so many opportunities to get solid scoring wingers this year. Bjorkstrand, Milano, Pacioretty now Vrana, also Tarasenko and Boeser. You can get a really solid player basically for free if you have the space.

Something odd going on here.
Yesterday I was reading that they all agreed that it would be best if he extended his conditioning assignment in Grand Rapids, so far he has played 3 games, 0 points and -5 +/-.
Today waivers.

Does he need to clear waivers to extend his conditioning assignment past 3 games?

He's a very good player. I'm drooling over the options Sutter would have if Vrana were added.

I would not be upset at all if Flames put in a claim. For a free add, there's no reason not to.

A conditioning loan can be a maximum of 14 days (today is day 7 for Vrana).
When a player is on a conditioning loan, he takes up a spot on the NHL roster and his full cap hit counts against the cap. The Wings have plenty of cap space, but they are at a full 23 man roster, including Vrana and 6 players on IR. If one of those players is ready to return, they need to make space on the roster.

I don't think it's right to do this to a player shortly after coming off player assistance program. But i guess i could be wrong, and this is what the player wants/needs.....more time in grand rapids or fresh start.

That could be the reason. I guess he came out of the program on the ninth and the rules say the conditioning loan shall not extend past 14 days, which kind of makes things even more confusing I guess.
Edit.
I see his conditioning assignment started on the 28th, so he still had another week. however they need to make room on the roster for another returning player.
