5 THINGS - FLAMES @ PENGUINS
Flames look to win third straight when they face Sid and Co. tonight

FAST FACTS

LAST TIME AGAINST PENS: The Flames welcomed the Penguins to the Scotiabank Saddledome back on Oct. 25 for the first of their two meetings. Nazem Kadri netted two first-period goals and later in the game, Jonathan Huberdeau scored his first as a Flame and Michael Stone potted his second of the season. Jacob Markstrom turned aside 32 of Pittsburgh's 33 shots and the Flames won 4-1.

THE FIRST TIME: Multiple Flames players picked-up NHL firsts against the Pittsburgh Penguins. MacKenzie Weegar scored his first NHL goal against the Penguins on Oct. 20, 2017; Elias Lindholm recorded his first NHL assist against the Pens in October of 2013 and Dan Vladar started in his first NHL game against the Penguins, stopping 35 shots and recording his first NHL win.

3 Things to Watch: Penguins vs. Flames

Jarry Rebounding

The Penguins have been desperate for more consistency from their goaltending position. After bouncing between Tristan Jarry and back-up Casey DeSmith, Jarry may have finally turned a corner.#

Working through a lower-body injury the past few weeks, Jarry's play has been below-average at best. He played his most complete game of the season in his most recent outing, posting a shutout on 32 shot attempts.

Penguins take win streak into matchup with the Flames

BOTTOM LINE: The Pittsburgh Penguins head into a matchup with the Calgary Flames as winners of three straight games.

Pittsburgh has a 3-2-1 record in home games and a 6-7-3 record overall. The Penguins are 10th in the league with 56 total goals (averaging 3.5 per game).

Calgary has a 3-3-1 record in road games and a 7-6-2 record overall. The Flames have gone 5-1-0 in games they convert at least one power play.

Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith misses practice due to injury

His status with regard to Wednesday’s home game against the Calgary Flames at PPG Paints Arena is not clear but head coach Mike Sullivan labeled DeSmith’s absence from Tuesday’s practice session as precautionary.

CP Secret Santa, Don't miss it!!

Flames just play the Pens well it seems. Less worried about this game than I was about the Flyers lol.

Betting we see Markstrom tonight as he's finding his groove and if they want to play him out of his early season issues then that's what they'll do.

Don't mess with a winning formula and the Flames are finding that.

First game against the pens was the only game this season that I think the Flames had a comfortable victory. All of the other wins have been tight games.

Let’s hope that tonight is more of the same.

Two teams with almost identical records. Should be a good game. Hopefully the good guys come out on top.

Pens will be doing a silver stick presentation for Geno's 1000th game (which he played on Sunday). The video of the entire team copying his stretching routine in warmups on Sunday was hilarious.

P.S. Cheese -- is your "fourth line" based solely on performance from the previous game?

Could've seen letting Markstrom get another game to let him solidify getting his game back, but do think it's important for Vladar to get regular rotation of starts too. He's also gotta instill confidence by getting wins as well. Hopefully he does that tonight.

It's amazing to look down the list of the top 20 scorers in the league this year and see just how much of an outlier Crosby is in terms of age. Still a special player at 35.

Obviously it's not a "must win" at this point in the season but going into the US Thanksgiving firmly in a playoff spot would be great.

Also, winning that game in hand (STL too please) to push the grease down a level would be icing on top!

If only so that we don't have to hear about how they aren't, and therefore the season is lost, a thousand times.

Didn't Friedman change that (or try to) a few years back to the middle of November or early November? Regardless the Flames were in then, so all is good.
