Friends, the saying goes that rivalries are born in the playoffs. But in terms of formative regular season clashes, there are two teams that immediately come to mind for the Calgary Flames over the past couple of decades. One’s quite obvious: the Edmonton Oilers, the Flames’ counterpart in the Battle of Alberta.
But the other is probably the Los Angeles Kings, a team whose construction, culture and playoff success are arguably what the Flames are currently being modelled towards.
While a lot of the animosity between the Flames and Kings does date back to the on-ice antics of Matthew Tkachuk during his rookie season of 2016-17, the importance of their regular season rivalry dates back to the 2014-15 season.
BOTTOM LINE: The Los Angeles Kings will attempt to keep a four-game win streak intact when they play the Calgary Flames.
Calgary has a 2-2-0 record in Pacific Division play and a 5-6-2 record overall. The Flames are 1-4-2 in games their opponents commit fewer penalties.
Los Angeles has a 9-6-1 record overall and a 0-2-0 record in Pacific Division play. The Kings have a 4-1-1 record in games they have fewer penalties than their opponent.
And as Jerry told George in one of the many classic Seinfeld scenes, "you'll have more energy and self-confidence than you ever dreamed of."
OK, maybe that's pushing it. But no matter how you slice it, there was a weight lifted from the Flames as they returned to the ice on Sunday, having snapped a seven-game slide with an impressive, 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets the night before.

When was Kylington activated from IR? Is this a new development pointing to a possible return?
New development it seems. A big step, but he'll definitely need a while to get close to game shape. I imagine he may look a little off for at least a few games as well when he does eventually slot in, since he had no camp. Thrilled to see he's approaching a return though, after whatever tough things he had going on away from the game.
Nevermind, guess there was an error in the first post.

Does anyone know the rationale behind the 6:30 start time? I could see it if they played Toronto or Montreal but not LA. My only other guess was that the Kings were playing a back to back and it was based on the minimum amount of time needed between games but this is also not the case

I suspect it's because it's part of the SN Monday Night show/Game they're trying to feature. Like it's not a hometown hockey thing, but I think they're trying to make monday nights a thing.

Hopefully Sutter and his juggling the lines after a win doesn't send us into another slump like it did last time.
I get Dube and Coleman being poor, but Lucic has done nothing to earn a slot on the 2nd line he shouldn't even be in the lineup these are puzzling moves when are you are trying to win.
