TFP: Flames evaluating Lucic contract extension
https://www.thefourthperiod.com/oct-...dzgCOY.twitter
Quote:
According to a team source, TFP has learned the Flames have been internally discussing and evaluating a contract extension for veteran forward Milan Lucic.
The Flames have not yet approached Lucic’s camp about a new deal, but they know the player would like to stay with the team beyond this season and feel he is a big part of the team, the source explained.
Details on a potential contract have not been ironed out yet, but there is a belief Lucic would not entertain a one-year contract; two or three years is expected to be what the player would be looking for.

Bring him back on a PTO?
Maybe 2 yrs at say $1.25?
But I guess you need to be in the locker room to understand these intangibles to put a value on him.

I would not be keen on a 2 year deal. One year at $1-1.5M. If it's 2 years, it better be for no more than $1M. Even then, I am not a fan. (Which I hate saying, because I really like Lucic)

I like Looch, but even 2 years is a bit much for me. One year and see how he does? Sure I guess. But 2 or 3 years? Pass.

No thanks. Let's see how this season goes before even thinking about it.
I'm still mad about how they lost Hathaway to a 4x$1.5 offer.

Lucic getting paid what he's actually worth would be a giant asset to the team. I'm 100% on board with an extension

It'd be a 35+ deal so I'd be extremely hesitant about going anything longer than one year, unless it's very cheap.

year to year deals like stone at near minimum . thats how you squeeze the most out of these kind of fringe players
only Edmonton hands out multi year deals well over 1M for players in their career twilight

Can the Flames trick the Oilers into paying part of the extension?

I've been very vocal on the board about my support for Looch and his importance to this team. Completely okay with a 2 or 3 year extension at what I assume would be a low price. I'm thinking 2M? Really not concerned at all with Treliving managing contracts for his own players. He's proven plenty of times he gets these right.

Who was the last 35-year-old third-liner to sign for three years with any NHL team? That is a completely unfathomable outcome to me.

Lucic has notably improved every year he has been here, he's a regular wrecking ball and to the surprise of many seems to manage to beat someone in a foot race for a scoring chance almost every game. I could see a few teams offer him 2 years at a mil per, are we willing to lose him to a Vancouver or Seattle for that?
For this fan a mil a year for 2 years to have Lucic keep teams honest while we contend is an easy yes.
