Default The great unknowns....

Post a player that was a phenomenal player in their day, but all but forgotten today. They can't be hall of fame players, but when you hear their name, you're like "I totally remember that guy! He was solid d-man / scorer / playmaker / etc....."

I'll start with..... Barry Beck

Big bruising Canadian Defenseman that could put up the points. Bonus points for the awesome 'fro.

This guy was what you got if you ordered Larry Robinson off of Wish.

Hmmm...I'll go with Pierre Larouche. 822 points in 812 career games. Silky smooth hands. I'd post a pic but I don't know how.

German Titov was one of my favourite Flames when I first started following hockey back in the 90's.

Mickey Redmond. One of the few bright spots in a very dark period for the Redwings. His line mate Danny Grant fits the bill too.

Ron Duguay

620 points in 860 games including a 40 goal season in 81-82.

But holds the record for the best hair in the game.

Dude was dreamy. And the inspiration for my current flow.

However, I have yet to be called dreamy.

No one is talking about Mark Jankowski and it's a shame.

If just talking on ice performance, I feel like Dany Heatley would fit this description. No one ever talks about him anymore, but at his peak, guy was a 100+ point player.

Rick Middleton!

988 points..... nobody knows him. It's crazy.

Or Brian Propp, who I had literally never heard of until looking for Middleton's points, who had over 1,000.

He was like the Phil Kessel of his day.

If you ran into him at a bowling alley, you'd think he fixed photo copiers or something.

Was going to say Rick Middleton. So I'll say Steve Shutt.

I'm going with Mats Naslund. Older guys might remember him, but he's still worth a mention.

634 points in 651 NHL games. He had 43 goals and 110 points in 85-86.

Not a "phenomenal" player, but after struggling with the Flames, Brian Bradley ended up putting together a very respectable career, including a 42 goal, 86 point season and more than 500 points in just over 600 games. I don't know why, but when I think of players that flew under the radar, he is the one that always comes to mind.

Also, a player that most people hated but I was a big fan of was Darcy Tucker. He was the "unicorn" player back in his day. Just a little goon that could put up decent points.

Mike Knuble is another one that comes to mind. For the first 7 years of his career, he was just a big grinder that never scored much. The he had a stretch of 8 strait 20+ goal seasons, including two 30+ goal seasons just by figuring out that he could just plant himself in front of the net and no one could move him. During his peak, he put up 419 points in 533 games.

He ended up with 548 points and over 1000 career games. Not bad for a guy who could not skate.
