Better team lost tonight. Lottery team with another fortunate result. What can ya do.
Flames still have a lot more room to get better too. Onto the next one.

How much are we paying Markstrom and Huberdeau right now?

Flames completely handed the game to Edmonton on a platter, yet again.
Markstrom choked after a great start. Top line can't do anything out there.

Game turned when Backs flubbed his 2nd short handed chance.

Tough to see Marky give up that terrible goal after a pretty good game. It would be great if the 10.5 million dollar guy would pitch in a bit more.

Can't beat fate.
Flames:
42-25 shots
65% CF
66.67% HDCF
63.5% xGF
Oilers:
Flames tip it in their own net
A goal from a bad angle
A bounce of a skate
It stings because Oilers but not a bad game by the Flames.

My observations:
- The Flames didn't play very good, had no rhythm, still outshot the Oilers badly
- It looked like they had a long lay off, nothing crisp, even on the PP
- Marky played strong but again he has to stop giving up the weak one
- The size of the horse shoe up that teams a$$ is so gigantic I just don't get it
On to the next

Markstrom cost them the game, plain and simple.
Of course McDavid all the talk, thanks again to markstrom.
Oilers backup is better than the flames starter. Oilers are in markstroms head.

Markstrom had a lot of really good saves. Two crappy re-directs and one that caught him off guard. Not a fun way to lose.
On to the next one.

Yup, he got greedy and screwed up. And honestly, I love Backlund, but his possession game was crap tonight. Lots of bad choices with the puck I thought. Alas.
But really the top line needs to do something. Anything at all. Just ...get a goal maybe. "Maybe pop one in there." to use Rhett Warrener's parlance.
And Markstrom... just stay in the net kiddo.

first goal off Hanifin
second goal after Markstrom can't corral the puck behind the net
third goal off a skate
Flames outplayed them, but the Oilers had more puck luck
Also, Flames behind for the last 10 minutes - game management call? Not a chance.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Despite the botched play behind the net Markstrom was far better than he was in the playoffs. Far better. Flames didn't do themselves any favors as a whole.
That said, not a fan of Markstrom playing the puck. Feels like it rarely clears the zone.

Never seen a goalie default to playing on his knees like that. Has anybody suggested to him to stand up when the other team is shooting?

Agreed. I'd rather he just Ice it instead of ####ing around.

He didn’t even play the puck did he? He didn’t get to it. Or did he get some of it and I missed it?

I thought the team didn't test Skinner like they should have. They might have got alot of shots but there were way too many shots right at him.
And Markstrom needs to lay off trying to play the puck on a hard dump in so much. If he's good at blocking them fine but too many get past him and he got bit for it tonight.

Really? Butterfly goaltending has been pretty popular since Patrick Roy. I should add, I don't care for it either but it's pretty common.
