All 5 games against teams that missed the playoffs last year too.

Your outlook on things is quite a bit more optimistic than mine. 2-3-1 is a worrying start to the season considering only one of those 6 opponents made the playoffs last year.

When the road trip started, I viewed it as the Flames Vs. other Teams in the projected “mucky middle”.

At the conclusion of the trip, the Flames came up lacking. The Flames are standing still, and the teams behind them are improving thanks to strong drafting, and better utilization of the salary cap.

With any luck, the Flames draft in the top-10 in 2024. Without luck, the Flames will draft right where they did last season.

2-3-1 doesn’t paint the picture correctly due to how the NHL pushes for artificial parity, but at the end of the day the Flames have lost twice as many games as they’ve won and I don’t have enough faith in the skill on this team to think they won’t hover right around where they are today - out of the playoffs by a touch.

Heck of thing to see Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman always do what they do though. That’s a hell of a 3rd line.

Who cares if the teams missed the playoffs last year what a stupid way to judge the losses.

Team improve. Buffalo the sexy pick all off season missed by a point. Blue Jackets lost 500 man games to injury.

Flames can't keep losing to bad teams and expect to make the playoffs.

The Wings roster has been bolstered but they still have a lot to prove considering how last year went.

Jets are clearly worse than last year.

The Caps have looked awful against anyone other than the Flames this year.

The Pens are a dinosaur team at this point, one year older than their missed playoffs last year.

Sabres goaltending continues to be a disaster.

Jackets are a bad team, you can't just hand wave it away by citing injuries.

Can't score more than 2 goals against backup goalies and non playoff teams.

When you say solid 5 on 5 play on the road trip before today, I assume that comes from the numbers you are looking at because watching them they have not looked good 5 on 5 at all.

For those who were predicting that this year would be the same as last year, it does feel like we are seeing the same type of experimentation as we saw last year. While I was expecting an adjustment period for this team to get used to the change in systems, it concerns me that we are seeing the same lack of chemistry this year as last year.

Steve Yzerman is a hockey management genius. These two teams looked like they belong in different leagues

Flames were brutal in defensive breakdowns and turnovers. Detroit capitalized

Bingo I hope your wrong about setting up a Wolf sighting in the near future.

I'd hate to see another young goalie with promise get to shoulder the load of the entire club, city put 100% on him

No goalie playing behind this team is gonna have success. Just don't see it.

Yeah, the strategy can’t be to continue with the defensive breakdowns, and parachute in a rookie who doesn’t even practice with the NHLers

I said it in another thread. Seems like fan fiction and not sensible management

Didn't we play game 1 against WPG? The last game of preseason was against VAN.

What goalie have the Flames/city treated like that? What goalie did the Flames have that they would have deemed worthy of putting that much hope on?

Ultimately, no amount of coddling is going to help Wolf. The reason why none of our previous young goalies turned out is because they weren’t good goalies.

Young players need development. Wolf stagnating in the AHL is not going to help anyone. Not recalling Wolf while Vladar and Markstrom are rocking sub-.900 save percentages is a team not giving an opportunity to a young player who has earned it, and quite frankly we’ve seen enough of that with this organization already.

Edit - Hey, Marky has got himself up to a .905! Happy days!

Detroit now has 30 GF in 6 games and this is the third time they’ve put up 6

Not really playing like a ‘non playoff team’

Very balanced team

4th line was just as good as 1st or 2nd line

Lol I said the Wings, Sabres, and Pens weren't good this summer and got mocked off the site.

The Wings are obviously playing great so far...it's a long season but they look like a playoff team to me

Small sample size, they appear to be better than last year but still have a lot to prove.

Oh yeah, it’s a long season and things will normalize

They are red hot now, and how they are going about it was on full display today

I’ll miss Lalonde’s insights on the HNIC playoff panel if this keeps up
