5 THINGS - FLAMES VS. RANGERS
"It's frustrating, the fans are frustrated, we're frustrated," Jacob Markstrom said Friday after practice. "We want to win, want to play good especially in front of the fans. It feels like we are one good, one bad, very up and down. There's 27 games left, we really need to put our foot down and come together and pull the same way.
"Everyone wants to do the same thing here. It's a great group, the guys are great. Now we just have to put it out there on the ice."
Fast forward to tonight and a match-up with the Rangers awaits, one of the top teams in the East.
“Lucic is going to be wired” for Saturday’s rematch vs. Rangers
Blais might not be in the Rangers’ lineup anymore, but Lucic made it clear to his former teammate Mark Giordano, now with the Toronto Maple Leafs, that he is hungry for revenge ahead of Saturday’s rematch in Calgary. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman got Giordano to spill the beans on what Lucic told him and reported it in his latest 32 Thoughts column:
Flames May Need To Adopt A Why Bother Approach To Season
That could be the Flames mantra the rest of the season.
Why bother?
Why bother buying as the NHL trade deadline approaches? Bringing in another scoring forward isn’t going to move the needle enough to make up for the goaltending woes, the defensive disarray.
Why bother playing the older, slower, fourth liners who are just preventing some of the younger players and prospects from developing more quickly at this point?
The answer is the same as it’s always been in a hockey city cursed to perpetual mediocrity.
Flames ownership has no appetite for a rebuild. Never has, maybe never will — at least as long as the current group is in charge.

I feel like everyone is anticipating a replay of the last game between these two teams. I can’t help think this will be a total dud. The Walsh tweet doesn’t help anything and the Flames get walloped again. 7-1 Rangers.

If the rangers get a couple early this game could go right of the rails. A lot of frustration could be unleashed.

I like the "why bother" write up, it sums things up nicely. The kids on the farm and other prospects are probably thinking the same thing. I wonder if anyone asks for a trade before the deadline, or would qt least be open to a trade (willing to wave movement clause).

Looking forward to Lucic skating around all night looking for Sammy Blais.
Team is at a crossroads with the TDL looming — not sure who will win but I’m taking the over on this one.

Sequels are never as good as the original. I don't expect the same energy. I do expect some stick squeezing from the forwards and Markstrom in net. That said, watch them win this one leaving us all confused. Again.

Only chance is rangers played last night. That said that didn’t help flames vs Detroit . Rangers are one of , if not, hottest team in league right now.

Whatever happens, happens. Getting tired of everyone crapping on the team, from national media, to the league, to the people that have ulterior motives. Eric Francis is desperate for the team and Darryl to fail and is doing his best to take credit. Negativity gets all the air time.
So, Flames, just say f it to everyone, go out and have some fun and see what happens. You aren't as bad as everybody says you are. Go Flames. Win or lose, just play the game.

Good to see Stone out for Gilbert potentially.
I've been wondering in game stories for the past week if Gilbert can play the right side ... is that a lot to ask?
Might tighten things up defensively for the team if the third pair can hold serve more often.
Zadorov and Stone have been on the ice for 5 five on five goals against in the last 5 games. Gilbert none in the last three games.
