Saddledome Draft Beer Changes
I think that the beer changes were mentioned here previously but I can't find the discussion on that topic. Bud and Bud Light have been pulled from the Dome and replaced with Great Western from Saskatchewan for the next 5 years.
It is a good thing that there are plenty of other canned choices at the bars because the GW Light is an awful beer. I didn't try the Pale Ale after having their Light product.
I wonder what other people think of the new draft offerings?

Going on Saturday for my first game of the year, so I'll have my own opinion next Sunday morning, but everyone I've heard from who went to the home opener was less than impressed.
Also, sounds like the end of heroin beers. Heard the new stuff is noticeably less potent.

Now with 20% less heroin?

I still can't believe people think that they were magically boosting the alcohol content of something extremely mass produced for one specific customer while risking massive regulatory impacts.

Had a couple of the Original 16 at the home opener, not impressed. Tried a couple of the light at the Wranglers game and had a hard time finishing the second one. Banded Peak is not my thing so I guess I will have to fo with the Ultra.

I’ve resorted to bringing my own heroin and spicing up my beer myself. Sometimes I skip the beer and just inject the heroin into my veins.

Personally, I find any Bud product to be the equivalent of fermented pregnant mare’s urine. Any GW product I’ve ever had has at least been palatable. Can’t say what the stuff they’re pumping out at the Dome is like but I can’t see it being worse than Bud swill. Even if it is at least it’s Canadian.

I really enjoyed the Original 16 at the Home Opener. Thought it was much better then previous Bud offerings.

Kind of too bad that they couldn't get a local company like Wild Rose or Village for the contract.
Fun going to different rinks as an away fan when they have a local beer on tap.

Bud Light tasted like sweet nectar from the gods in comparison to GW Light.

I wonder what ever happened to the bottom fill cups and "taps"?

Yeah super foamy, I ended up getting half on my hand by the time I tried to drink it in the preseason game I went to. Might try something else tomorrow.

With the amount of micro breweries in Calgary that are putting out fantastic quality beers of all types it's a shame to see these breweries not being sold at the dome.

Probably not economical. But surely Big Rock is a big enough company to supply them.

It is definitely a missed marketing opportunity for the Dome. They should make at least one of the bars on the concourse a microbrew dedicated option.
I noticed that they opened a new bar on the north end of the concourse called Side Car. It wasn't operating on Sunday during the Wrangler's game so I don't know what they offer there.

I haven't been to the dome yet this season but at other places I've found the GW beers to be decent, especially compared to Bud/Bud Light.
It's a nice change to see the contract with a somewhat local Western Canadian company as opposed to a massive conglomerate.

Village yes but Wild Rose is owned by Sleeman. I agree with your point though. I was super excited with banded peak in the dome until I found out they are owned by Labatt. So many great Iocals beers its too bad a few couldn't get into the rotation.
