After all the talk of “we don’t need a captain”, the only way I see them naming a captain before the season even starts is if Huberdeau came in and set such a tone that it was obvious to everyone that the $84M man was the leader.
And if that’s the case… baby.

Backlund is the choice if you base it on Flames veteran status.
But Huberdeau has just said all the right things and has shown the most aptitude to ingratiate himself to the fans.
I'd go for Tanev.

I'd say Tanev as well.
Sutter is pretty traditional on these types of things. Tanev was too new last year but proved in his absense how valuable he was on and off the ice.

It's strange that the table is set up for only one person. If it's to announce the leadership group, you'd think they'd want all of them at the presser, plus the coach and/or GM to make the announcement.
