He was on the 3rd pairing this morning with Zadorov seems strange.
Don't think Sutter is a fan of Stone to be quite honest. He's never really spoke highly of him. He wasn't very happy with Mackey either on Friday.

I think they are just waiting for Kylington's situation to be determined: LTIR, cap relief? And they will sign Stone tomorrow, now that they are over the hurdle.
Also, that is a 22 man roster, so still room for Stone.

So at the end of the day Ruzicka and Mackey make the roster for now. Mackey looks pretty ready for me. Not going to be a huge difference maker but can be effective in the bottom pairing.

Is this a cap/contract thing? Do they have to wait for the season to begin to use any LTIR from Kylington?

Good for Mackey and Ruzicka.
No idea how the manouver things when OK comes back. I’m guessing they know what the issue is and don’t think he’s coming back for a while.
Stone might be in limbo until there’s an injury.
Excited to see how we match up in the first 2 games. Should be a good indicator.

They have to be over the cap in order to use LTIR. Right now, they're $1.175 million under the cap with this roster and no Stone signing. Assuming he signs for league minimum, they'll still be under the cap even with Kylington counting in full.
Since Stone wants to be in Calgary and the Flames seemingly want him here, there's really no rush to finalize the contract until just prior to the first game he'll play in.
