Over $9.15 mil is a bit pricey. Probably worth it with cap increases but not a great deal

Seems like a lot of people in this thread don’t watch enough Barzal. 9 mil is a real solid contract for his talent.

Seems like you haven't been watching him since his rookie campaign.

How would people have felt if we dished out that contract for him if acquired? I know a lot were high on him, lots very weary.

I watch him a lot, I've had him in more than one pool. He has offensive flair at times. He's too inconsistent to be a centrepiece of any team's first line.

Would be interesting to see his production under new coaching.

I think this contract will age well.

Robertson is probably licking his chops. That's an interesting stand off.

I 100% agree with you that watching him you see he is an exceptional talent. Stands out. But you would think with lower production lately, you could have got him on a cheaper deal. If he was a free agent, he probably gets something like this? Tough to tell.

Dallas will be squirming. I hope Robertson holds out.

I was one of the posters who was on board for Hanifin for Barzal trade ideas. My thoughts were that Barzal would get around $8 to $8.5 mil and Hanifin will get over $9 mil and we needed a top 6 forward (this was before Kadri signing as well)

The trade idea doesn't work as well IMO now that he got $9.15 mil as Hanifin still has an extra year at $4.95.

Barzal probably is worth the money but he hasn't proven that yet and is 25 now. But i do think coaching and style of play contributes to his numbers.

I think he has the potential to be more than that, but if he doesn't reach that, it definitely won't be a great contract. There is a lot of real estate in the middle though.

I can see why the Isles would take the gamble though.

That's going to be key because he's a player that's been living off his rookie year and he's not much of a goal scorer. The only thing going for this contract is his age as he should at least be a consistent 18 goal, 60 point player for the duration of the contract which probably won't be terrible in five years if contracts continue to escalate.

Just because the cap is going up you still don't overpay and this is a big overpay. A 60 point guy getting 9.15 is what the league has come to. Salaries are out of control.

It's a capped league with salaries tied to revenue so why does it matter?
It's just a matter of who gets the bucks and who gets squeezed.
How can salaries be "out of control" in a capped league?
