Looks like they'll start the season with eight defensemen.

They must think Zohorna has some potential otherwise they wouldn't have claimed him. It couldn't have been easy for him to come in on a red eye and get thrown into 2 preseason games. I wouldn't be surprised to see him back up relatively soon.

So I'm guessing that leaves opening roster and lines as such. At least how I would start:

Huberdeau Lindholm Toffoli
Mangiapane Kadri Dube
Rooney Backlund Coleman
Lucic Ruzicka Lewis
Ritchie

Hanifin Andersson
Weegar Tanev
Zadorov Stone
Mackey Meloche

Markstrom
Vladar

One of Mackey or Meloche gets sent down once Kylington returns. Potential call ups are Zohorna, Pelletier, Phillips, Zary, Schwindt.

Sutter did say that those sent down had performed better. Might have a recall once the season starts

I'm glad we get to keep Zohorna and see what he's all about in the coming months. I think there's good potential there for a later bloomer still.

Once a player has cleared waivers, how long before they have to clear them again?

getting sent to the farm is nowhere near the deal it used to be for these players since they don't even need to leave the building . logistically it is a cushy situation for these kids and they can easily showcase themselves to be the next call up since mgmt will be in attendance frequently . love having the ahl team right here

It is a tremendous organizational advantage. Much easier to keep development players from being disgruntled about AHL time.

After they have spent 30 days on the NHL roster or played in 10 NHL games. They can spend an infinite period of time in the AHL.

Man the Wranglers have a crazy logjam at forward.

Pelletier / Zary / Phillips
Zohorna / Schwindt / Klapka
Pettersen / Kerins / Pospisil
Sutter / Jones / Duehr
Gallant / Bishop / McLain
Nikolaev

I wouldn't be surprised to see Nikolaev and Kerins! start out in Rapid City. Just to get some ice time.

I would be surprised on Kerins. He'll start in the A. His OHL numbers were too good for him to not be at least on an AHL fourth line to begin with.

Could also see McLain going down.

They're going to be really good this year. The defense is deep as well (or will be if/when Mackey and Meloche join the team)

It’s funny that Schwindt is the biggest C they could have between Zohorna and Klapka and he’s dwarfed by them. They need to throw Solovyov and Kuznetsov out with them at the same time.
