Icon59 Oilers, and only the Oilers, are the finalist for Virtanen

Would hope the Flames lose this one. Want no part of this player

My understanding yesterday, unless this has turned into a bidding war since then, is that these are just PTO offers in front of Virtanen

Sure hope that's all

yeah Edmonton can have this one. Sounds like a perfect sidekick for Kane.

Since Neal, Treliving has made a concerted effort to seek character guys, so this is a surprise.

Absolutely disgusting. The Flames should have no part of this.

Not sure about this. The Flames were connected to both DeAngelo and Kane as UFAs ...

I don't get it. Aside from the baggage, he isn't very good. I thought he had a reputation for being lazy.

Didn’t follow this closely but wasn’t he acquitted. What’s the issue?

OK- hear me out. We have a history of driving up Edmonton's desired contractees in the lead up of the season. Treliving has done this multiple times. IMO that's exactly what's occurring here.
NOW, here is the interesting part. If the oilers do sign Virtanen outright rather than PTO him, they will need to move someone. That someone is very likely Pulju given it's his position in the lineup that Virtanen would be taking. Kenny holland may just look at this (if the rumors about disliking pulju are confirmed and the oil lack of advanced stats) and think hey, another right shot big body who put up 36 points in his last full season. Cheaper than Pulju! Perfect.
The reality is that Puljujarvi is a much superior player than Virtanen. Now I don't think there's any chance at all that the Oilers would trade the flames Puljujarvi. But I do believe that we would be interested in that player. And perhaps there's a third party out there who will facilitate that.

Tinfoil removed, I certainly hope that we're playing conspiracy and not trying to sign this moron.

Virtanen has ties to Calgary... that's what concerns me.

He was. An acquittal just means "not guilty". It does not mean "innocent".

aside from the off-ice stuff, I don't see how he'd be an asset on the ice ... he's just not very good, plus lazy. Surely you could find similar camp bodies without the baggage?

Is this Brad just getting in there and driving up the price for a player otherwise has no market?

Or the Oilers planting stuff out there so when he signs with them it makes it look like they "won the bidding war".
Wouldn't put it past them.

Not really, because the rumours are it is just for a PTO anyway.

This will be embarrassing if it were to happen.
